my buddy got us an xbox 360 for our apartment from a friend. we were told it was hacked to run burned games and told that if a burned game had been run on the xbox then the retail disc would not work on it (it's a used console so someone else before us had used some burned games). for instance when put in our retail copy of gtaIV it says its the incorrect region, but other games such as call of duty 4 work just fine.

can someone explain this process to me or tell me how to check if the xbox is actually "hacked". or what a "region free" xbox really means. thanks
