It's 1.29GB, so that depends entirely on the speed of your connection.

At this point TomTom is way in the rearview mirror. Love Navigon!

Too funny! I've been very happy with my selection of Navigon to date. I've had it about two weeks now. I'm looking forward to downloading the update tonight!

id really like to see how the volume control works with a jailbroken iphone running pandora or slacker in the background. this would be awesome if it lowers the volume of the music in the background. if anyone can test this that would be great!

For the people that are running the update: if given the chance, would you go with Navigon or iGo?

The new update looks pretty nice. I haven't played with it much, but here are a couple of things I noticed:

(1) loads faster
(2) acquires signal more quickly
(3) they relocated the info on when you will arrive to the bottom of the screen
(4) you can show "route options" such as avoid highways - shows as icons whe calculating the route
(5) you can call POIs
(6) you can add interim destinations (stops along your route)

So far - it seems like a nice but minor upgrade.

The volume lowering function worked for the iPod app only. Tried Slacker and WunderRadio.

I don't think there could be a way for this to work. Navigon can check the running processes for the iPod app and then lower the iPod volume before an announcement. Can't do that for for apps that are backgrounded.

you can have either the three options that were available in the top menu bar displayed, or the way it is in the v1

that's the question I want answered.
in particular, I have heard complaints that the lack of contrasting colours on the Navigon screen makes it hard to read.
comments?

Under options, click more, then turn off Route Details.

It now says the price is good until August 31. More time for me to make a decision. :o

Regret to hear tha the roads names are still difficult to read due to the use of non-contrasting colors for background and road names.

Can someone tell us if they have the ability to simulate the entire trip in this version now, or is it still limited only to the last few meters of the journey?

I've always found the GPS signal to be very unstable and weak compared to Sygic. I hope this version fixes that problem.

Confirming that it loads faster and acquires signal faster.

Has anyone had a problem with the POI Filter not saving in Categories Shown? Mine has a mind of its own, often defaulting back to all on. This is incredibly aggravating, considering it was a feature I was looking forward to.

POIs are also severely lacking. They still dont have something as massive as Beaver Stadium in State College PA. Thats embarrassing.

I would also think they'd include all the Apple Stores.....but that's not the case either :o

It might not be as bad as you think. I've found that when I do a "statewide" search for a POI it often doesn't show up. If I then do THE SAME search, but specifying the city, it finds it. That's very strange behavior, but it seems to work.

While their POI database does somewhat suck, you're wrong on the Beaver Stadium thing. Although you can't find it via a statewide search, do a city search for "University Park" (Penn State is located in University Park which is a separate city within State College). You'll find it then. It also shows up when you do a nearby search (I live in State College).

So is it the POI database that is lacking or just the search engine sucks?

The search is flaky. I find things via a city search all the time when they don't show in a state-wide search.

I overcome the poor POI database by finding the business, etc in Google Maps. Add the location to the address book the start Navigon and select from address book. Quick, accurate, and simple.

It's both.

But, the POI search and the contents of it's database isn't a feature I care about. Maybe if they get some over the air update thing going, it's not worth the trouble/hassle/frustration.

Just search for the POI in Apple's Maps (Google powered and always up to date), add it as a contact, and use the contact in Navigon as the destination. That's the beauty the iPhone brings.... convergence of TBT GPS software, Google, and Contacts. It's much faster for me than using the search in Navigon....but, to each his own.

I had this happen but I think it was because I hit the "Categories Shown" button on the top left of the screen after making the changes, and not "Save" on the top right. Once I hit "Save" after making my changes I haven't noticed it not keeping what I choose.

I bought IGO My Way today and can say in regards to searching for POI's, it works much better. It searches the city you select first, then the surrounding area even if outside the city and keeps expanding.

As a comparison to your example above, I put in Pittsburgh as the city and then type "Beaver Stadium." IGO came back with one entry, 116 miles away waiting for me to select and route. That's how POI search should work.

i just purchased the app (and recently installed the 1.1.0 update) and it works like it should for me (san diego, ca), havent had any real problems yet. im not sure if anyone else has had this issue, but my car mount is mounted in a landscape mode. when in the car dock and the app is started landscape, navigon wont recognize and stay in a portrait mode -- you have to launch in portrait and then rotate for navigon to recognize? i close navigon and launch other programs such as mail, safari, etc and they all recognize the phones orientation instantly. not such a big deal to launch the app, rotate, then put it into the mount -- but when receiving a phone call and then returning back to navigate, the stupid map gets put back into portrait mode and i have to remove and start the landscape / portrait process all over...

Have you restarted the phone?

If you have, try removing and reinstalling the application, then restart the phone and respring. If this doesn't work, contact Navigon.

Fearless: you've got to let us know more about your experiences with iGo. How easy is it to read and interpret the screen while driving? Are directions clear and uncluttered or too much information and video game-like?

Do you think with the map API in 3.0 that searches can also be integrated into other apps as well? Seems like it would the best thing for the end user if you could search for POIs through integrated google maps instead of a static database - then it could just use the address for routing.

The map API has no predefined function to search the map. Only to display a map, zoom a map, move a map, and put pins on a map where the developer tells them to go.

Hopefully TomTom comes out before Aug 31st so I have time to read reviews and compare to make a decision before Navigon's price skyrockets.
