I delete all my iMovies after I convert them to QuickTime/iPod.
Why do I only have about 3gig to work with now if I want to make a new one?

Did you empty the trash?

Yes.

Which version of iMovie are you using? Always mention the version.

If 08/09, then, removing a project does not remove the content in the events being used. You have to send those to the trash too, and empty it using the Finder.

Previous iMovie versions had their own trash that first had to be emptied.

I have iMovie HD 6.0.3 and Mac OS X 10.4.11.

Good program. use it all the time. When iMovie is on, goto file, then delete (on the bottom). Also do a spotlight search of the name you gave your project to see if there are any associate files. I have tiger on another mac so will fire that up to see where else to look. I'll post more if I find something. BTW, iMovie 6 does work in leopard.
