I have been making Ethernet Cables for some years now and always, just out of habit, have stripped the copper wires before inserting them in the RJ-45 connectors. While I have my fair share of non functioning cables, by in large my cables are perfectly usable and dependable.

I notice however that cables I have purchased DO NOT have the copper wires stripped and are crimpted with them intact.

My question is if I need to strip the wire cables or not?

Not only do you not have to, you're not really supposed to either. The crimping severs the insulation of the individual copper wires and connects them. Save yourself some time!!!

if you remove the wire insulation, you'll have a much greater chance of a failing wire... that's why i was taught never to strip them. when you crimp the 45, you'll notice that there is very little room between the pin and the insulated wire. basically the insulating plastic holds the pin in contact with the core.
