Call forwarding and text messaging

If I setup my iPhone to call forward to another number will I still receive text messages on my iPhone?

Where I work I receive 0-1 bar throughout the day, I was thinking of forwarding my calls to another number, but would still like to respond via text message from my iPhone through the intermittent service.

AFAIK, the text message will still come to your iphone (they won't be forwarded to the phone you have call forwarded). The call forwarded phone will only receive your calls.
