I have an iPhone 2G from my brother, and I'm an AT&T customer. I have received great advice on these forums for how to jailbreak the phone so I can use it without a data plan. Before I do, I'm curious if I can activate the iPhone without jailbreaking and without iTunes (so I don't need to sign up for a data plan). Is this possible, or do I need to jailbreak and unlock? Thanks in advance.

If you have a AT&T pay as you go sim, you can activate the iPhone with that sim as long as the iPhone is running 3.0 or 3.01
