We are thinking of buying a Apple TV to use for renting and buying films, but I want to check: how fast do films get onto the iTunes Store after DVD release? Is there library good?

AFAIK, it's really good, but I just wanted to check before I dropped the cash!

The library is very good - but it's not universal. I believe that many new releases hit the iTunes store (and are available on Apple TV, therefore) on the same day as they are released on DVD.

Can you tell me what films arn't on there then? It'd be very annoying to want a film and not be able to find it!

Just open iTunes and view the video section. Making a list of everything on it would be rather pointless, especially not knowing what you want to see on the list.

It's a bit difficult as the majority of new releases are on there. What i would say is there's a bunch of back catalog stuff that isn't there.

The store at the last count (I could be out of date about this) was circa 2000, now when you pop on lovefilm or amazon and they're talking 10s of 1000's, there's plenty of stuff missing.

But like i said if you want the latest and greatest then it's alright.

Also there's plenty of stuff you can buy yet not rent and i'm not talking about latest releases.

Sounds OK, it will mostly be used for new films and the only older ones will probably be popular ones which are likely to be there too.

Thanks guys!

Bear in mind that many of the newest films will be available for purchase only. The ability to rent usually comes along 30 days after release.

This is not always the case, but it is more often than not in my experience.

Just FYI

Also, just for the record, if you buy an HD movie via iTunes or your Apple TV, you get an SD copy too, for use with tour iPhone or other SD equipment.
