Hi everyone,
I sent in my Macbook Air rev. B for warranty repair ten days ago at an apple store, for some scuffing on the screen bezel and random shutdown. The repair status has been on "repair in progress" since late last week. I have tried calling applecare many times, and the response was either "it was sent to engineering" or "not sure what's going on with your computer". The applecare support has always been very friendly, and I just couldn't bring myself to raise my voice to demand my MBA's return (I doubt it'll expedite anything anyway) over the phone.

Does a display replacement and hardware diagnostic really take 10 days?
What can I do to get my computer back? What's the cutoff for unacceptable repair duration?

thanks

10 days really isn't long. First they have to ship the laptop, then the repair center receives it, then they have to process it, then start diagnosis which can take days in its self if they cant easily reproduce the problem. (There have been many times Ive kept a computer on for a few days when someone says there is random shutdown only to never have it happen for me).

Once the problem is found the repair has to be made which can take a while. Once the repair is made then another diagnostic needs to be made to make sure its working again.

Then it gets packed up and shipped back.

Now, calculate the rest of the traffic from other laptops being sent back and that is probably where your wait time is. Random shutdown is usually very hard to replicate and if the tech can't replicate the problem its almost impossible to fix.

Yeah. I have a 17" MacBook Pro with that click+beep hard drive problem. Took it to apple Store in SF (the downtown store) big mistake. It took 7 days just to replace a hard drive.

They did say up front, 7-10 dys so they did pretty well I think.

It beats the old days when we had to mail our computers in. Apple shipped the boxes over night but it was still 2-5 day repair time so having a store is nice and convenient.

I'm a bit pissed, I dropped my imac for repair, the girl said it would take 48hrs, I called a couple days ago, now the person on the phone said it would take 7days =/ very disappointing..
