saving pictures & viewing them

ok hi im new to this fourm and i have a question about saving pictures and viewing them. I can save them but i cant view them in any program. I have the mac ox program, the new one. It wont work in the tiff, jepg file or anything. and when i try to view them with iphoto it says that the file is courpt or the program is not recognized with it. may some1 help me cuz i cant figure out how to use it. i am a reformed pc user trying to make it in a mac world! thanks!

welcome to the forums medpat! try openning up preview in the applications folder, and drag the file into the application icon in the dock.

Some more information might be helpful in solving this problem. When you say you can save pictures, what program are you using to save them? Do you mean dragging them from a web browser, or creating them in some sort of graphic editing program? Have you tried viewing them with anything besides iPhoto (i.e. Preview, another included image-viewing program)?

"I can save them but I can't view them in any program" how are you "saving" them? from a digital camera, downloading from the web, getting pics from e-mail attachments? please explain.

When you say "it wont work in the tiff, jpeg file or anything…" what are you referring to? have you already saved them in these formats? or are you trying to "open them as" these file formats.

Welcome to the Mac forums, try to help us with a little more information, what is your computer, G3-G4-G5? (or earlier) OS X (presumption)
I think the most important question is: Where are these file coming from originally?
