8 GB RAM? Worth it?

I'm going to buy an iMac next month, and I was wondering if the 8GB of RAM upgrade is worth getting from Apple, considering it costs $1,000. Is that price significantly higher than what it would cost me at another store? And if so, can you tell me some vendors who might have better prices? Thanks. :)

apple selling ram is almost criminal in my eyes with how they price it

You'll pay a lot more buying from Apple. Try OWC. I'll probably get a 4 GB module from them for my uMBP.

Nope, the price for 8GB is just ridiculous right now, just wait till it drops down.When it gets below $300 I'll get one to bump to 6GB. When it gets below $200, I'll go from that to 8 GB.
