I'm still within my 2 weeks and if snow leopard launches anytime before September 1st could I go get SL for free from the Apple store?

i believe unless you return your computer, you will have to pay the 9.99 upgrade

Apple up-to-date programme (http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/). Different from the $29-ish upgrade.

Save yourself $9.95 and wiat for 10.6 to release if you want to save yourself cents, for whatever reason.

oh.. I thought that it was 15.00 for the upgrade. Well if its 9.99 that's a better price I suppose.

If it's like prior years, on launch day, the retail stores will open all of the stock in store and put the "drop in" SL DVDs in them. Only computers purchased that day and later (until they ship with SL installed) get them for free.

I know this is a well-meaning thread, but to talk about saving a few dollars after buying a MP is comical. :)
More power to you though. Looking forward to seeing how SL improves MPs.

tl;dr

Unless you get SL with the computer (have it preinstalled, meaning buying after Aug 28th), then you will have to pay the 9.99USD upgrade fee.

How can you complain about a $10 or even $15 pricetag when you are purchasing a computer for a few thousand dollars. Something tells me if you are getting any mac, $10 extra isn't going to break your bank.

And if you don't want to pay the $10, wait until SL is released on Friday and starts to come with the machines, but I don't see why you would wait a week for a new computer just to save a measly $10?

Eh, margins. The OP has been through a good amount of machines IIRC.

Well considering that the cheapest mac pro you could get would cost you $2500, saving $10 is less than .5%. If you are worried about saving that much money, perhaps you should not be spending $2500+ on a machine. Just my .02. I mean, there is nothing wrong with saving money, but that's like saying you want to use the cash for clunkers program to buy a ferrari. If you have enough money to buy a mac pro, you have enough money to pay $10 for the up to date program.
