automatic joining of wireless networks

I told my Powerbook to automatically join certain wireless networks. I'd like to undo that for some of the wireless networks, but I can't seem to figure out how. Does anyone know how to undo this?

Hmmm...I'm wondering this too. I'm thinking maybe Keychain Access in Apps/Utilities? I *thought* I'd given trusted status to another network besides my AEBS before, but when I looked in here, there were only entries for the AEBS. But you should be able to delete the entries for the particular network and that should do it? Which I can't test out cuz I don't have a 2nd network handy.... :(

Edit: But the worst it should do is make you enter the network pw or key again...

well if it makes you feel any better have the same problem with about half the networks i connect to. the other half connects just fine. go figure.

I've wondered about that too. But what gets me even more is how do you Disconnect from a network? Sure, you can join another one, but what if I want to disconnect from all wireless networks. There isn't a way unless you turn the Airport card off AKAIK. And if you have the auto join problem, you can't even turn your AP card back on or else it'll auto join the connection you are trying to disconnect from! Arg!

Anyone have any ideas?

Just trying to spam, I just think this is a curious problem that could use a look at by a fresh set of forum goers. Anyone have any ideas as how to solve the auto join, and more importantly (to me) how to disconnect from a network without turning off the AP card?

Nope, I'm still stuck on this.

I'm surprised Apple didn't make this easy to do, especially since there's a legitimate reason why you'd want to do this:

I told my PB to trust the wifi at a coffeeshop. Now I want to un-trust that wireless network, because I no longer have a wifi account w/them.

Every time I go to said coffee shop, it joins that network. I have to remember to turn off the Airport card to preserve the battery. :rolleyes:

So does anyone know how to un-trust a wifi connection? :(

(PS: I just do it to preserve battery life, but there's also those wireless networks where you get charged by the minute ... ugh, didn't Apple think about this?)

Ok, found it :D
/library/preferences/SystemConfiguration/ delete the com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
Then restart airport.
Note that this is not your user library, its the main system library.
It would ask your password to delete the file. But don't worry, I just tested it. It would unauthorize all the networks. So you would have to reauthenticate all the networks you want to keep.

i was going to suggest a plist as i was reading the first couple of posts, then i saw yours...:p

Instead of deleting them though, you can open them up in an app like property list editor (comes with the xcode tools) or even subethaedit and other text editors.
sorry cant try it for myself, seeing as how i dont click on yes, ever. i hate autojoining networks sometimes.
