I have been trying out the otterbox defender from http://otterbox.com and it is one awesome case. I'm not going to be boring with this review just straight forward and to the point
PROS-
- It fits tight and offers the best of protection with a silicone outside skin and a hard 2 piece shell on the inside.
-All ports are covered along with all buttons.
-You can use it almost anywhere without worry because it offers so much protection.
-It comes with a holster so if you dont want the bulk in a pocket or even a purse you can put it on you hip whcih I liked the most:D.
-Finally it had a seperate protective screen to save you from cracking screens.
CONS-
There really werent that many cons for me.
- The bulk can get annoying but it really didnt bother me.
- If you have a non antiglare screen protecter on your phone than you will probably get the watermark effect on the screen such as I did.
Verdict-
if you want the absolute BEST protection go get this case.
If you want good protection and don't mind bulk go get this case.
Everyone go to http://otterbox.com
and get yourself some of there cases they have a good selection that all offer great protection. Thanks.

I have never been disappointed with *any* Otterbox products that I've tried. I don't have the iPhone one, but I've had others from cigar boxes to electronic test equipment cases and they all are built to survive a war. When they show cars driving over their cases, that's no exaggeration in my experience!
They're one of the few American case makers left (the HQ is in Fort Collins, CO - I've lived there most of my life) and you do get what you pay for with the slightly higher prices of Otterbox stuff.
Anyway, thanks for the review of the Otterbox iPhone case!

I like this case but have an issue with the company's advertising. They claim this case has 3 layers of protection.
This is NOT true! At most, there are 2 layers of protection and only 1 layer of protection for the screen, camera lens and rear Apple Logo. I lose faith in companies that make false claims.

Even so that doesnt take away fromn the overall quality of the case.

No it doesn't but still, it's false advertising. You decide for yourself.
The OtterBox Defender Series™ for iPhone™ 3G / 3GS offers stylish and sophisticated protection in 3 layers. First, a thin, clear membrane covers your Touch Screen to help prevent scratches and dings. Second is a hard, strong Polycarbonate skeleton that surrounds your device. Wrapped around all of this is a Silicone skin that absorbs bump and shock.
There is no 3 layers of protection! Again at most, there are only 2 layers of protection for the iPhone with this case. How this company comes up with there being 3 layers of protection, is beyond common sense. There are 3 different types of material but all 3 are not combined anywhere to protect the iPhone.

Hi Kwats, thanks for the review. Just wondering if you can pls do a followup and let me know how the case works out after maybe a month or 2 of usage?
Also, I'm kinda worried, with such protection, will the iphone 3GS warm up too much during charging or heavy usage?
I'm thinking of getting one due to my job and I'm a really clumsy user. But I live in Singapore, I may have no choice but to order it from otterbox and with the posting cost, the case can cost me abt $75. That's why I really need to research on it before I get it..don't wanna regret getting it.
Thanks!

I have had my Otterbox for over 6 moths now and it is the best protection in a case so far. I have a 3G iPhone and have not noticed an heating issues when charging or reception issues. You do get oil slicks though, so you have to do the baby power trick for the screen to prevent them.
I really like the case but am upset at the company for their false advertising.

I have been using it alot with about 7 hours usage a day and it works fine for me without heating up or anything havent had any issues i think its worth the buy.

I am happy with my otterbox Black and yellow! Looks great!
Not happy with the "bubbled" look the screen gets.
Whats that baby powder trick that was mentioned?

I see you did engineering. Did you go to CSU? I may have known you as I was at CSU from 03-08
Would be really crazy if you went to the same HS and middle school haha

Be careful of the holster ... they seem to loosen up over time, and eventually they get to the point where your phone will just fall out of it. I love my Otterbox case, but the holster REALLY needs work.

I think nobody will believe this but I'm still waiting for my Otterbox to arrive. Ordered it on 27Aug09 and guess what? I'm still waiting.
And what's more, the days reflected on the stock availability column on my tracking website fluctuates quite a lot..
Have I been cheated by the agent handling the International Store for Singapore or Otterbox is really outta stocks?

Has anyone else using the Defender case on their phone had problems with texting? I usually text pretty fast and it seems to slow me down. Am I the only one who is having to push down harder to connect with letters? I'm only using the case and an anti glare screen protector.

probably because you have too many screen protector slows it down a bit but I don't with two screen protectors on.

yeah, it's lame but otter box goes out of stock from time to time. i generally order from extremepda.com and order over the phone. They generally know if the amount I need is available, and if not the salesman will call me back.
I adore the defender series, but some of my coworkers are a bit surprised when they get the case, and they realize it's not a typical small case that u can wear on your hip everywhere.

I just received my case yesterday (after waiting for almost a month) and I like it pretty much. Makes me feel that my iphone is safe.
In any case, how do you pple clean your otterbox? I work with a lot of dirt, oil, fuel and hydraulics. My hands are often covered with them. Just wondering if there is any suggestion on how I do some light cleaning on a daily basis?
Thanks,
:)

Can someone confirm that it works with a fully body skin? I know it will work with screen protectors, but what about a skin that covers the back and sides of the phone?
I like using my phone without a case but with the snowboard season coming up, I want something heavy duty to protect my phone while I'm on the mountain.

I wanted to share my customer service experience. I damaged the screen protector on mine (major scratch). I emailed Otterbox and told them what happened and asked if I could buy the inner clam shell portion. I got an email back the next day and was told they would replace it at no charge and she asked what color it was and my address. AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE! I highly recommend Otterbox!

The oil slicks, or watermarks that people see with the rainbow effect are called Newton Rings. You can actually purchase Anti newton ring powder (they also sell an Anti newton ring spray) which is better then baby powder. It's actually made for this sort of thing, so it has a different consistency.

"newton rings"?..
never bothered me; however, taking the phone in/out of the case a few times the "watermarking" has gone away..... (no powder needed)
