Icons keep moving

I'm new to mac and am trying to keep all my icons on the desktop on the left (yea, yea, yea, i'm still in windows mode) and every time my machine goes to sleep the hard drive icon moves back to the right side. Anyone feel like answering my pathetic newbie question?

Try creating an alias of you hard drive icon, the go to Finder>Prefrences> (then uncheck the boxed marked) Show hard disks.

That should work.
