Today my boss came to me and asked me to look at his wifes 2g iphone. It was stuck on the apple logo. So naturally I went to do a complete restore on the phone. I went through the dfu mode and it loaded the ipsw fine but after it got to the "your phone will now restart" it keeps crashing and restarting.... anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Again I have done the dfu install.
Edit* sorry itunes is also telling me that it is getting an invalid response from the device.

Try blowing into the connector port. This probably won't work in this situation if I'm honest since it randomly stopped booting, but it's always worth a shot.

That's what it might be initially too. Tried that and tried a couple different sync cables as well  It is like it sees it then it loses it

Well, then try to put it into Recovery mode.

He said he already did a DFU restore.
It sounds like something in the phone is damaged unfortunately, not to do with connecting to the computer but a vital thing it obviously needs for booting up.

THAT is not a DFU restore. Recovery mode is different.

DFU:
Step Three
After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
The iPhone screen will remain black like this:
190019
Recovery:
Step Three
As soon as the screen goes black release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
The iPhone will look like this:
190020

Aggie I did try a dfu restore... and it keeps doing the same thing. Tried going back to the 3.0 then 3.0.1 and same thing. Tells me to wait while phone restarts, then it craps out and keeps recycling through the install bar.

I understand that. The recovery mode option is the standard thing to do if DFU restore doesn't work though (and it is slightly different than a DFU as I showed above). You may be SOL.
Oh, and I assume you have the latest iTunes? You might try reinstalling iTunes if the Recovery mode doesn't get it.
