Alias Folders in iTunes library?

Have any of you worked with alias folders in your iTunes library? What Im trying to do is this: I have have several movies and TV shows and my entire iTunes library is on an external drive. But whenever I move my MBP, I have to take my external with me or close iTunes so it doesnt switch folders while disconnected from the library. I like having iTunes keep my library organized automatically. Im thinking if I move the movie and TV show folders onto another external but making aliases to those folders and putting those into the iTunes library folder. So if I add a movie or tv show to the library it will see the alias and store it on the external and music would be on the internal drive. I dont mind moving around without movies and tv shows but I download alot of music through iTunes and dont want to move the external around. Will this work? Anyone tried this or have a better solution? Basically I want one iTunes library stored on different drives.
