eSATA drive - I have to unplug and replug each restart....

I have an external eSATA drive (WD mybook studio 2TB) that I"m trying to use for time machine backup.

When I start leopard, the drive does not show up unless I unplug the esata cable and replug it in, then it works fine.

1) Why isn't it recognizing the drive on boot?
2) Is there a way to force a "rescan" without physically unplugging?
3) Other tips?

Sounds like par for the course with the MyBook drives. I don't know anyone else using one on SATA, but they seem to have some weird power management stuff that is absolutely worthless and causes them to not mount consistently on USB and FireWire.

Mine's been sort of flaky with eSATA, but solidly reliable on Firewire. You know, I'm hoping one or all of these things happens:

-USB 3 turns out to not have crummy actual throughput and is therefore usable.
-Firewire 3200 is deployed and works at least as well as Firewire 800, only four times faster.
-eSATA gets fixed to be more reliable.
