iMac - Discontinued?!

I've seen in Mactactic (http://mactactic.com/) and in your Buyer's Guide (http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#iMac) rumors of the iMac being "About to be discontinued" and "Approaching the end of a cycle". I couldn't find any sources confirming that, on anything that might hint of that. Why would the iMacs be discontinued, and which product is likely to replace them?

OP, as to a new iMac coming out anytime soon, I wouldn't trust the Buyer's Guide.

It remains to be seen whether or not Clarksfield will be able to go in the iMac as it is now. In fact, I'd say that it's certainly too power-hungry to fit in the current case. If Apple doesn't get creative with cooling, we could very well be waiting until Arrandale next year. We'll see what they do, though.

Being wrong might not be against the rules… but sorry to say, you do come across as astonishingly arrogant, ready to bat down any comment. Especially if you can hit the reply button a nanosecond after the new thread has been published.

Just maybe, take it a tad easier? You've got some good thoughts and points, your communication skills need some work though. ;)

It's not like it's against the rules or anything.You're right of course, it's not against any rules to make predictions.

That said, you do frequently seem to project guess work as fact, but don't make it very clear that all your ideas are is just that, guess work.

People (for some reason) will take what you say and base their own decisions on this, then you turn out to be wrong (easily done), and everything is completely up the spout.

There's no harm in prediction, this is a rumours forum after all. Just be clear and a bit less cock sure about what you're saying, then I think you'll have an easier time.

I dont think the current iMac's are going anywhere. Apple went through the trouble of making all their laptops look like the iMac design and then released a monitor which also mimicked iMac's design. The only thing you'll be seeing is under the hood improvements but the current iMac as you know it is here to stay for a while.

No, making predictions and being wrong about them isn't against the rules - however, intentionally presenting your opinion as an absolute fact is intentionally misleading people (you don't know that it is true, yet you are telling people it is - sometimes causing them to spend a lot of money based on that "fact").

Intentionally misleading people is against the rules:

Hoaxes. Purposely misleading other members to their detriment. Giving advice you know to be incorrect or harmful. Sensationalism.

He's right. The buyers guide has become increasingly wrong, especially with the desktop macs as Apple is shifting toward a once a year update cycle.

It is more useful to see how the past few updates went, and go by that.

Nothing wrong with making predictions -- we all do it.

However, many times you state your predictions as fact when they are not.

That's the rub. Suggest that you tone it down a bit and have fun interacting with others on MR rather then brow beating them into submission. :)
