someone tried this last week, stealing the title of a recent thread and making it seem legit.
they aren't gonna send you an iPod, they don't even guarantee they will, this is a giant scam.

Maybe not a thief... but schemes like this are certainly disappointing. I for one dislike being mislead and deceived. And I certainly don't expect to be subjected to it here.
I come to the forums here for good solid advice, legitimate information, and rumors :) that are understood to be that. When something is passed off as being legit, and is not... that is deceptive and unwelcome IMHO.

It is a legitimate post. Anybody would be excited to get a free ipod. His post wasn't malicious, so dont' penalize him. Seeing the general response, he voluntarily removed his post.
Yes, it is a real deal... however, it's not worth the risk. (see post clarifying business above) I considered it (a while ago). I wonder how long ago the 12% ran out?

Period, not a question mark.
Even if the iPod "pay it forward" situation isn't a scam, the concept about referrals to another site borders the fine line between "I just found this, thought it was pretty cool, check it out..." and advertising. Advertising is prohibited on the forums, so advertising threads should be locked down. I think that a thread in question should also be locked down, as such a topic has some tendency to be taken by someone as advertising, which would probably draw in negative attention and, eventually, more of a reason to close the thread.

Thanks.Anybody that supports a PYRAMID scheme is a thief.
And they are also illegal and a Federal offense.
Should we turn you into the feds and let you argue your point of "I'm not a thief" to them?

i was trying to have a serious discussion about this post. since all support and "advertising" for it has been deleted, i wanted to discuss some of it's shortcomings.
now, to make this all clear:
************.com is a MLM scheme that exists to exploit its customers, do not participate or encourage others to participate. it is a crime, and you may be prosecuted***
now, my original question, rephrased: i wonder how quickly these schemes begin to exploit its participants. an above quoted article speculates the top 12% actually can benefit from these illegal schemes.

we don't need the the threats here.Actually it probably IS needed...
The idiot is still interested in oranizing this scheme for people here (as of today). I am passing along information and offering to organize a queue for some people to get free ipods. yes, i understand that not everyone will get a freeipod, yes i realize i am at the top of the queue... When you stick your neck out to do this, you step into the Federal Criminal Code quite deep.
** It's not the getting suckered that I have a problem with, it's the willingness to become a central figure (quite publically) in one of these schemes.
---
IF this is really a "Gratis Internet" site and not a rip-off, then why doesn't the guy add this site to the front page of FreeDVDs.com FreeCDs.com FreeVideoGames.com FreeGiftPlanet.com
The other sites are quite clear about how you earn the points, *********.com looks like a rip-off with no explanation about "how" you earn the free ipod -- beside the "participate in an on-line offer" which smells a lot like "buy me"
If it is a Gratis Internet site -- he made it look like exactly like an illegal pyramid/matrix scheme, which could sink the entire company and all the sites.
And it's odd since he has electronics on one of the other sites, while this one doesn't look or act like any of the other sites.
When the site looks odd, it's usually a pure rip-off using somebody's good name.

michaelrjohnson deserves credit for defending my right to post.
i have removed the post, and have no affiliation to the website.
as for the legalities of the website / scheme, i am not going to debate the issue.
i was passing along info that i had found elsewhere and thought it might benefit someone.
