I'm going to be buying a USB hub for my laptop (MBP).

I'm looking around and there are a number of cheap ones for $5-$10 and there are also ones that go for $30+

The devices I'm using are:

WD My Book (has its own PS)
WD Passport
Bunch of usb thumb drives (1-4GB)
MP3 player usb recharger/connector (for my Sandisk Sansa)

I don't have any of these plugged in full time, nor do I use any at the same time. Would a USB hub be able to handle a WD passport drive? Should I just go with a cheap monoprice jobby?

I am sure an USB hub should be able to handle WD passports. For $10 to $15 you will get a very good USB hub and I would avoid the ones selling in the $5 range since I had some bad experience in the past due to the quality of those devices. Amazon sells "Belkin USB 2.0 4-Port Ultra Mini Hub F5U407" sells for $10.37 and has good ratings.
