I have a Macair.
I ran the remote disc to install SL.
The first time did not work.
The second time I tried a BOOT from disc and that worked.
Everything seems fine- but now- on the desktop- I have a second Hard Drive icon under my system icon. The second HD icon labeled Install OS X.
All I can think happened is I made a clone of the update disc to my system???
I can eject it. But it re-appears on re-boot.
How do I get rid of it?

I was having this same problem, but soon realised it was a partition on the hard drive, which is, apparently, created temporarily during installations and usually removed at the end of the process. When the installation fails, it doesn't get removed.

To remove it, simply open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder (under Applications), select your hard drive volume from the list on the left (not "Macintosh HD" etc., but the hard drive under which it is listed), then select the "Partition" tab. You'll see the "Install OS X" partition in the diagram. Select it and press the "-" button underneath.

Once that is removed, you can resize the Macintosh HD partition to include the space used by the rouge install partition.

Hope this works for you!
