I have a 2G iPod Touch and it is still under warranty and am thinking about taking it to the apple store.

The sound quality is horribly low and very grainy.

I doubt its water damage but then again it can be and dont know what other contributing factor could play a role.

So the Q is, can they check on the spot for water damage?

I wouldn't want them to give me a new iPod Touch and then they call me days later saying they found water damage and have to surrender my new Touch to them...

There is a reactive strip at the end of the earphone socket that they can easily visually check on the spot.

Thanks for the reply!!!!

This is great. I just checked myself and no water damage! Hopefully the Apple Store will replace my Touch due to the speaker damage or w/e.

When I had to exchange my 32GB a few weeks agp, the moisture was what they checked for first. They used a thing like what doctor uses to look into your ear. He inserts it in the headphone jack and looks into it and then checks the water indicator in the dock plugin area.
