View Full Version : Mac Pro 2006 fan activity while in Sleep Mode under SL

I upgraded my Mac Pro 2006 (full specs in sig) to Snow Leopard last weekend, and since I have noticed that random times throughout the night, or whenever my computer has been in sleep mode, the fans will all kick on in full blast (including the video card, I think). It is similar to when the computer is first turned on, or woke from sleep, except it doesn't turn on...just makes noise for about 5-10 seconds.
I haven't been able to really inspect the computer when it does this, as it is completely random, and usually wakes me up. I just look over, and its making loud noises...then stops.
My first thought is that this might be a Wake On Demand bug, but I don't have an Airport Base Station, just some D-Link router...but there are other Macs in the house.
Any ideas?

When you go check the machine again is it back sleep or "awake"?

The computer remains asleep. Happened again this morning.

Too bad Apple doesn't cover that under warranty.

I have this problem too. I've noticed it a load of times now, and the behaviour is exactly as described by the OP. Is anyone else experiencing this odd behaviour?

pmset -g log
Anything weird in there from when it happens?

I simply did a clean install of Snow Leopard and it corrected the issue - sorry I didn't post back sooner, there wasn't much interest in this thread/issue.

Also, on the console I see the following two lines.
04/02/2010 06:37:45 Facebook Notifications[351] Net status changed to 0
04/02/2010 06:37:47 Facebook Notifications[351] Net status changed to 1
Can anyone interpret what's happening?
Cheers, Fred
