Best way to convert VHS tapes to DVD using Macbook pro?

I am trying to convert old family VHS tapes to DVDs and was hoping for some recommendations on the best way to get the VHS to the mac, then to rip the DVDs. I am new to Mac and could use the help.

Canopus ADVC-55, 110 or 300 and you can't go wrong. They're your best bet.
