Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me out here and that this will help others having the same dilemma.

I have a Macbook pro (= 1 DVI output) and a 20" Apple cinema display (= 1 DVI input). I have them next to one another on my desk and all it works fine using this as one extended desktop.

What I'd like oh so very much is to use an HDTV (HDMI and depending on model, other inputs) as a "third" display. Now my desk (MPB & ACD are on this) is in my living room at about 3m (10ft) from where I'd like my future HDTV to come.

Here what I want my HDTV to be able to do:

1) View/listen to iTunes content (music, video)
2) View iPhoto content
3) Watch Youtube (and maybe other video post sites)
4) Watch DVD's (from my MBP, and NOT having to buy a separate DVD player)
5) Watch VLC and DIVX content (eg all video formats)
6) Watch TV using Elgato EyeTV LIVE (not having to record and export)
7) Extend my desktop (or be able to "send" a selected program window to the HDTV)

I would really want ALL of this to work :D

So far I have listed these options:

A) Apple TV
B) Hacked Apple TV
C) Mac mini (and some sort of sever setup ?)
D) Y DVI splitter cable (then one of these to HDMI to the HDTV)
E) Powered Splitter box
F) Dual link splitting

So as far as I know none of these would cover everything I want...

A) only covers 1, 2 and 3 (as far as I know)
B) and C) are basically the same (I think..) Is there anyway of using this as a remote desktop ?
D) Would of course only "mirror" my ACD... (What about signal quality ?)
E) Same as E but at 10x the price... (But better signal quality ?)
F) Not sure if this would really work ? Can I make OSX believe the ACD and HDTV are only one display ? what about resolutions/format issues )

The dream solution would sound something like this:

"...enables you to connect an HDTV to your MBP via WIFI to be used as an autonomous external display" :D

(If you work at Apple please forward this to Steve)

Please let me know if I'm missing some easy or obvious way to do this !
Failing easy or obvious, please give me the painstakingly difficult way...

Thanks,
C.
