I am getting a new computer and have 2 options of processors. I can either get a 2.33 GHz Core2Quad Q8200 or a 3.0 GHz Core2Duo E8400. Which do you think would be best for Logic? Would Logic even be utilizing all 4 processors in the quad?

I don't understand. The Mac Pro uses the 3500 series CPU.

Don't tell us that yu have a studio recording task so large that you need a quad core Mac and you would risk a job like that by using a "hackintosh" That is more risk then most of us would take. The cost of a Mac Pro is "nothing" compared to the cost of the mics, preamps and other gear.

If this is just for home use then any Mac will work fine, no need for four cores.

I think that might slightly overstating the case. My concerns with a hackintosh was mainly in interfacing with firewire/USB hardware (I'd recommend checking it out thoroughly before purchasing). But as far as software is concerned, I haven't *heard* of any issues. (I started a thread when I was shopping a few months ago -- I ended up going with an iMac, preferring to avoid any problems, and realizing nothing I was doing required a ton of power).

How much processing you need depends alot on what exactly you're doing. Audio tracks require the least power, effects some, software instruments the most. The number of tracks is obviously also important. What kind of work will you be doing?

i have:
intel imac
2 ghz
core2duo
4 gigs ram

using logic 8 I have had:
16 tracks with 8 effects on each track

that just about grinds my computer, depending on the FX.

that give you an idea?
