reasonable article but they still talk about the .aac format from iTMS being Apples own format instead of the opensource .aac format Apple uses with its own DRM on it.

A valid technical distinction--one that matters for quality, for instance. (AAC beats WMA and especially MP3 for accurate reproduction.)
But in important ways to most shoppers, the end result is the same as if AAC WAS Apple's own: you have to go through extra steps to get music on a non-iPod portable player. (If you must :) )
I agree that Sony's 8TRAC effort is a bomb, with the store being as poor as reviews say. I don't agree that Apple locks you out of anything meaningful: you can burn DRM-free CDs with one click.

They think that they can use 40kbps???? thats ridiculous I don't care if you using ogg, mp3, aac, wma or anything, that will suck! (unless it's mono, but it would still suck)
