Hi,
Im a relatively new iphone guy who lives in the Philippines. I just successfully jailbreak/unlock my iphone 2G using redsnow following the iclarified site.
My question now is this: A friend of mine is living in san francisco and is about to go here in the Philippines. Can he purchase (3) THREE planned AT&T iphone 3GS 32GB (for $299 each) then have it pre-terminated at once (fee of US$ 179 each) then bring it home in the Philippines to be used here on our cellphone carrier? (Globe cellphone inc)
Can the AT&T 3GS phone be unlocked/jailbreak/activated for Philippine use using only software hacks? Or is hardware needed? Or it can't be done?
Thanks.

there threads on this if you search not exactly but it's been answered several times. here are a couple of threads. and you know he needs to get 3 lines and it's 3X$175 plus tax plus fees etc.

Don't commit fraud. Buy the phones without a contract for $699 each, then you can do whatever you want with them.

But he would need an AT&T account to purchase the phones, it is required.
To the OP, as long as the Philippine network is GSM the phone should work fine once unlocked.

It's not fraud if he pays the ETF.

It's not fraud if he pays the ETF.
It is fraud to enter into a contract without intent to fulfill your obligations under it.
I would also point out that it is not possible immediately to break your contract. If you do so within 30 days you will be required to return the phones.

Hmmmmm.
What if my other friend who lives in New Jersey gets the units? He doesn't need to pay taxes right?
Also, can he only avail of the minimum monthly package? Isn't that like $30/month only? so it will come down to:
Unit cost w/plan = $299
Early Termination Fee = $170
TAX = $0
1 month fee = $30
To the one who said that you will be required to give back the phone if it is less than 1 month, what if you say that you lost the phones or someone stole them? So in reality, you can really terminate from day 1. It's just that you need to pay the 1 month fee of your plan.

No, no, no, no, no! There is so much wrong with this post I don't know where to begin.
How about with taxes? New Jersey has a tax rate of 7% on all purchases. Taxes would therefore be $20.93.
Minimum package? $39.99 400-minute individual plan + $30 unlimited data + taxes and fees. The minimum plan costs a total of about $64 for one month. Per phone.
Early termination fee? $175
And finally, what you are talking about is fraud. It is a crime. It is stealing. Buy the damned phone at retail price: $699 + tax.
