Warning to Bootcamp 3.0 users (Snow Leopard)

Beware that you can now READ (Only) HFS partitions under Windows. However, be careful when you access is in Computer Management/Storage as you can easily delete these partitions and lose everything. Also beware that you can also format it from My Computer.

Somehow I installed the Bootcamp 3.0 drivers, and one of my HFS+ drives disappeared and wouldn't mount under OS X. But it was visible under Vista. What I did was copy everything from Windows, and format the drive again in OS X.

Just a heads up.

I had another issue with Bootcamp 3.0 drivers. I updated my MP1,1 to SL and installed Bootcamp64.msi on my Vista64 Business installation. I run Vista with the Intel AHCI driver. At the next boot of Vista I had BSD. It looks like Bootcamp 3.0 installs legacy SATA driver back and kills Vista that way. Unless you have a restore point in Vista a full install is required.

afaik when u in vista or xp, u can only read osx drive but can change anything, cmiiw

If it's read-only, then how can you modify it? That would make it not read-only.

I believe you, I'm just curious if anyone else has come across this and it's truly a major issue or if you're a unique case.

You could never read HFS partitions under Windows prior to Bootcamp 3.0. I can say this because I've been using Bootcamp since it was introduced in the beta stage.

100% correct. If you go into Disk Management, you can delete the OS X partition. Just a heads up.

NEW FIND! This is a bug in Bootcamp 3.0.

The reason why I lost an HFS partition under OS X was because I changed the drive letter of that drive under Windows from Disk Management.

So in other words, when a HFS drive shows up under My Computer, DO NOT (I repeat) DO NOT rename that drive through Disk Management. Better yet, do not even click or right click on HFS partitions.

Just a helpful reminder to the people here.

The drive is a 400GB WD 7200RPM drive (Forgot the model #).

I was fortunate enough to have access to it under Windows so I could back it up easily.

Besides from that, did you have any issues installing the bootcamp drivers under Win7? Just insert the dvd and click install is good enough?

No other problems at all. Just that when I had a few mounted network drives under Windows, and the new drivers were installed, the HFS drives suddenly showed up and took over the names of the network mounted drives. This is the reason I changed the drive letter and had this problem. I sent Apple feedback on OS X Snow Leopard telling them about these problems, hopefully a new 3.1 update is released to cover these issues because changing a drive letter shouldn't cause such problems.

Other than that, just go to Bootcamp folder and run Setup.exe. Make sure to download the latest drivers from your respected display card manufacturer.
