Hi everyone

I got a problem with my Fire wire 800 LaCie 160 Gig porsche external HD.
I first intalled it when my powerbook 17 inch 1Gig Mhz, was still running Jaguar and it worked just fine.
A day or so after installing Panther it went down and I could not mount it on the Desktop anymore.

I checked my firewire port wich is intact.
When I launch Disk Utility I can actually see the external drive but my mac can't repair it. I can only launch "verify Disk" tough.
it says : invalid Bth lenght
Invalid key length
The volume needs to be repaired

Ouch

I talked to a mac reseller, he did not look very interested in my problem, but he suggested I should install Jaguar on top of Panther an try to acces the LaCie.
I tried that but DiskUtility still says the same thing.

What does this mean? Is the HD toasted or can I still hope on recovering the info that is on the drive. (I used it as my backup HD, I actually would need to recover the stuff that is on it  )

Shoul I try and recover the data with DiskWarrior (wich I dont have yet). Or schould I send it to some technical service for them to recover the stuff. I had about 40Gigs of information on that drive I would like to get back. Is that even possible?

Sorry for the long post but I really need some good advice on this.
Thanks for any help in advance

I read on this forum after I bought the external drive that LaCie is crap.
And that there are issues with Panther and Firewire 800. Only too late.

What are the steps I could take?
