Glad you got things working, but I don't think you needed to do any of the things you did. My guess is that what you did was choose not to merge contacts when you set up your MobileMe account. This didn't cause duplicate contacts, it just kept your MobileMe contacts and your Outlook contacts in separate folders on your address book. When you viewed "all contacts" you were seeing both address books. The simpler solution would have been to delete and re-add your MobileMe account in Email settings and choose to merge contacts with MobileMe when asked. You can safely do that if you wish, and it will automatically back up changes you make either in Outlook or on your iPhone.
