iPhone Savior (http://www.iphonesavior.com/2009/09/first-look-at-its-only-rock-and-roll-banner-at-yerba-buena-center.html) points to this photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bradimmanuel/3891346778/) of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts that Apple has decorated in anticipation of the "It's Only Rock and Roll" media event.
The lead up to the event has generated some speculation (http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-to-kill-off-ipod-classic-double-down-on-touch-iphone-developer-predicts-2009-9) about what Apple might be announcing. Apple is, of course, expected to update the majority of their iPod line as they have done for the past several years during their September media events.
The addition of a camera is the main feature rumored to be added to both the iPod nano and iPod touch. Appleinsider (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/09/07/technical_issues_could_delay_ipod_camera_upgrade.html), however, has posted a vague suggestion that the new iPods may arrive late due to last minute technical issues. HardMac (http://www.hardmac.com/news/2009/09/07/the-availability-of-the-new-ipod-touch-potentially-compromised) has a similar report with more details saying that the early iPods have been found to have a production defect: According to one of our reliable source (however, it remains a rumor), Apple is facing problems with the production of the new iPod Touch. The issue would be linked to the new camera module. We did not get any further details, but the problem has been spotted in the first dozen of thousands units produced. Those units have been put aside.
Given the scheduled media event, it seems that this might just delay production rather than the product's introduction on Wednesday.

Technical issues with the product itself delaying introduction??
Hmm they've been manufacturing these things for a bit longer than a week I suspect, it's more a case of quantities or supply line delays rather than the product itself.
You think that before distribution they'll crack each box open and get out a screwdriver??? or plug every one of them into a cradle and re-image them, box and send them on their way??
They make millions of these things each week, up to 3 months prior to introduction...
The only delay would have been earlier on in manufacture, for example a late start in the factory due to manufacture procedure delays.

I highly doubt that they are having any type of big problem. It's not like Apple can't figure out how to put a camera on the iPods. Especially the SAME camera that is already in the iPhone lol. They might ship in a week or two at the worst probably.
I also am excited for a new iTunes. I just hope there is something cool besides stupid social networking features.
I'm hoping for an Apple TV update too, but I am not holding my breath. And I know the Tablet won't be out till next year.

That said, if a camera is causing problems then I have to question how they're finding out the night before their own event.
Due to the secretive nature of Apple, I wouldn't be surprised if there are some flaws/bugs that slipped by the few (if any) beta testers. iPods have quite a history of issues (buzzing noise on the 2G nano, misaligned screen on the 3G nano, screen issues on the 1G Touch, etc).
A slight delay would be fine, but the ZuneHD is peeking near the corner in less than a week.

HA! [shudder of recognition]
Okay, first: No, the Classic won't be discontinued. It will likely stay exactly where it is, because second: the Touch will only get bumped up to 64 GB. Since there's still demand for an iPod with higher capacity, the Classic needs to stick around. My guess is that by next fall, 128 GB NANDs (or whatever they use) will come down in price enough to put them in the Touches and discontinue the Classic. Third, I think that a delay seems pretty reasonable and might explain why TomTom delayed the release of their mounting kit for the iPhone. My theory is the Touch will get a GPS chip, and TomTom is holding off releasing the kit until everything is available (Maybe they have something in the documentation that mentions the Touch, and they need to keep it quiet until an announcement about a GPS chip in the Touch). But I'm totally reaching on that one.

I used to be one of those people who wondered who needed 80GB for their music.
Now I'm one of those people who needs the storage. As much as I love the iPod touch I can't use one as my main mobile media device until it holds 80GB or MORE.
I'd also love an iPhone with a 120GB hd too, now that I'm making demands!
I hope the classic stays around awhile longer if there is not a giant increase in storage for the touch. :apple:

What the hell's your point? Amazon sells CD's or MP3's. And they even import it right to your iTunes. You can use CD's for any media of your desire and MP3's of course already play on everything - so I don't see what your complaining about.
And if you want to use your AAC files anywhere else you can use Winamp or foobar.

You don't say how a front faceing (sp) camera is innovative. A front facing camera *is* a gimmick, if you mean if it points the direction of the screen. It's either for taking pictures of your self (pretty vain, IMO) or for video conferencing, which nobody does, or almost nobody, the few that do don't seem to admit to using it. Maybe some people will use it to play with it, but the feature will probably be forgotten by most people within a week of purchase.

I disagree that a camera on an iPod Touch is a gimmick... There's too many apps in the App Store that can't be used by the iPod Touch due to the lack of a camera. Now on the Classic and the Nano, that's gimmicky.

The same old iPods now with a camera is indeed lame. Especially considering that if you're so into device consolidation that you can sacrifice picture quality, you probably already have a phone with a camera. The obvious next step is not moving your camera to your digital media player, it's moving your digital media to your phone, finally giving you the One device.
And if you're not into device consolidation at all and just want the best media player, best phone and best camera, well, again, this doesn't help.
I guess digital cameras are the 2000s version of the digital clock. It used to be people joked about product development as : "how can we make this product better ? Throw a digital clock on it and ship!".

Especially considering that if you're so into device consolidation that you can sacrifice picture quality, you probably already have a phone with a camera. The obvious next step is not moving your camera to your digital media player, it's moving your digital media to your phone, finally giving you the One device.
I agree. A phone slapped onto the iPod Touch & Nano isn't going to make a lot of people want to run out to buy the new models. As you said, if they're happy with the mediocre picture quality that an iPod would produce, then the vast majority of them already have similar cameras in their phones.

Suppose they're "available now" after the announcement, and shipping in the next 24 hrs, then BB will have them no later than 2 weeks after usually.

I think we will be seeing an updated shuffle -- the current model has gotten a really bad rap.
I also hope they don't kill the high capacity classic.
A camera on the iPod touch and on iPod nano makes sense. Add wifi to the iPod nano and you can turn it into a "upload photos/videos to youtube/facebook" kind of device that people will like.

I guess digital cameras are the 2000s version of the digital clock. It used to be people joked about product development as : "how can we make this product better ? Throw a digital clock on it and ship!".

What would you like instead of a camera and probably a microphone? For it to hover or create a hologram image?
Many people would use that camera. The iPhone is the most popular camera on Flickr. As for the mediocrity of the photo, who cares? There is nothing wrong with a camera that takes average pictures. For most that's enough. You will get mediocre photos from anything other than a $700 (minimum) SLR.

I once paid $999 for a Sony digtal camera that was 3.4MP. That was about 8 years ago and I still use it. I never dreamed that my cell phone would be just under that resolution. Back then 3.4MP was crystal clear.

What people STILL don't understand is that YOU CAN use third party devices, in a supported manner with iTunes via the XML file structure. All the third party device company needs to do is write a lil front end program that reads that XML file and you have full access to the music (with exception to DRM stuff of course).
I really wish people would just give it up already. Apple has every right to not allow other third parties to use their iTunes, which is entirely living for you to organize your music and support APPLE products...
I done see people bashing the Zune Marketplace and application for not allowing other third party music players....but hey....

I won't lie, I would enjoy it if Apple respected us consumers and allowed third party music player support through iTunes. Let the hating begin, but I would love to take my music with me ANYWHERE on ANYTHING. Amazon has been picking up my business as of late...
I haven't purchased anything with Amazon, but I actually second that notion.
It's viewed as a possible game ending mistake it seems, but I foresee cars with hard drives (my last caddy had one) but with a twist, WiFi! Imagine wireless syncing an itunes library directly to your car!

Because that's an iPod Touch, not a classic. The classic has the headphone jack on top, that picture has the headphone jack on the bottom.

This camera won't be any better than the camera on the current iPhone. Apple isn't that dumb. And most of those teenagers do have a camera phone.
Again, you offered no insight as to why someone that is into device consolidation would want to move the camera to his digital media player. A phone that can also play videos/music with a camera is a much smarter idea because then you have exactly 1 device for everything, instead of carrying multiple devices around.
Not to say Apple won't do it, there will probably be a camera on the touch to bring it to feature parity with the iPhone, but a camera equipped Nano and Classic is a lame idea. And if that's the only thing new besides storage in the iPod world, it's even lamer.

I guess you mean hardware update considering we've had one major and five minor software updates since the Apple TV launched in March of 2007.
Personally, I think they'll drop the 160GB Apple TV down to the 40GB price and call it a deal. Maybe we'll see another minor software update.
Unfortunately, Jim Dalrymple (of Mac Central and Macworld fame) has said there will be no Apple TV update in September. He's about as well connected as anybody including Gruber.

It's sad how Apple is completely neglecting this product especially considering Front Row development is practically dead.
Apple TV is one of those Apple products that likely has an interesting backstory. Someone will come forth and we'll get the exposé eventually. We used to have a Macrumors member who worked on the Apple TV team. However, he hasn't posted in awhile.

All tech products work with that kind of cycle. Big leaps forward every couple years followed by lots of incremental improvements. The iPod's entire history is exactly that so why is it now a problem for you? Besides, no company can reinvent their products every few months to keep the short-attention span consumer segment engaged.

Apple is going to go thru and introduce a few new items at the start of "It's Only Rock and Roll" and then it is going to turn into a HUGE Beatles love-in. There is no way that the Beattles are going to pass up the opportunity to have their music become available to the ipod generation. And Apple is going to make the party all about the Beatles for agreeing to it. I mean come on, do you honestly think the Beatles announcing their music being available starting the 9th and Apple's "It's Only Rock and Roll" event being on the 9th were just random coincidences?:D

If The Beatles were to be the focus, then why not put a Beatles lyric as the title? The song "It's Only Rock and Roll" is the Rolling Stones. Perhaps they wanted to not be blatant with it, but you can't be sure. I wouldn't be surprised either way.
As for the image on the building having the headphones on the bottom, perhaps they moved the headphone jack of the classic to the bottom? Have all of the IO on one side maybe cut down on costs? Maybe they were able to make it that much thinner?
Cameras on the nano doesn't make sense to me, but at this point, it'll be something extra that will get attention for this generation of nanos perhaps.
As for the iPod Touch updates, storage yes, of course. I think that the incremental updates work because I currently have a 1G Touch, and if it has a camera, microphone, and GPS/Compass then I will definitely upgrade. I feel that the same thing happened with the iPhone. Many 3G users didn't upgrade to the 3GS, but a lot of original iPhone users did.

Yes, hardware. The current one is just outdate. Speed bumps of the processor, better GPU, 1080p support and external drive support (or integration with AEBS/Time capsule).
They really need to get the ball rolling on this. I think they will update due the fact iTunes 9, SL and Quicktime X are out maybe paving the way for hardware and software. I am just not sure if will happen this week, but I would think soon they will take care of some of the issues above if not all.
If they indeed ignore it completely, they might as well kill the product for good. What keeps me optimistic is the iTunes store selling movies and the necessity to connect this to the HDTV, We'll see.

If The Beatles were to be the focus, then why not put a Beatles lyric as the title? The song "It's Only Rock and Roll" is the Rolling Stones. Perhaps they wanted to not be blatant with it, but you can't be sure. I wouldn't be surprised either way.
"...,but we like it" is from a Beatles interview

I think that's a bit farfetched, Apple wouldn't use some abstract quote that next to no one's heard of - they'd use an actual Beatles song title or well-known Beatles lyrics. And as other posters have said, the entire line, even the "we like it" part, is from the Rolling Stones song.

Here are my guesses for Wednesday's event:
1.) No Beatles on iTunes. Unfortunately, the "It's Only Rock And Roll" tagline pretty much excludes any kind of Beatles deal for iTunes. Using a Rolling Stones lyric over a Beatles event would be a complete slap in the face to the Beatles and I don't think anyone at Apple could be that stupid.
2.) The 40GB Apple TV is discontinued and replaced by the 160GB model. The Apple TV's USB port is enabled for use with externally connected storage (okay, the latter may not happen, but I'm still hoping and hoping).
3.) The new iPod Touch and the iPhone 3GS get HD video playback and output support via a firmware update (v3.1). Both units thus become capable of substituting for the discontinued 40GB Apple TV (although with limited storage capacities and with a somewhat restricted onscreen GUI).
4.) Apple introduces a new and richer iTunes-based format for albums (no surprise here).
5.) New iPod Touch and nano with cameras (no surprise here).
6.) No appearance by Steve Jobs. Sadly, I think the stories about his preoccupation with the rumored tablet product are just a cover story for his continued health problems. However, if he does appear and if he looks health and delivers most of the presentation then you can expect Apple's stock to reach $200 before the end of the year.

I posted this earlier (somewhere else), but I could see Rock Band Beatles being released for Mac OS X in addition to a bunch of other stuff. It would line up with the release for PS3, Wii, and XBox 360. However, it doesn't change the fact that they used a slightly altered Rolling Stones song title to advertise this event.
I just hope it is more than a few iPods.

I'm speaking of the people I know personally who are huge Beatles fans. They laugh at the thought of people going to iTunes to buy Beatles records. Then they are only getting half the picture. Sure, THEY wouldn't buy from there as they are already huge fans and own all the albums, both from the UK and the Album versions from the US, including Yesterday & Today (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/55/The_Beatles_-_Butcher_Cover.jpg) with the infamous Butcher Cover photo art!
They're forgetting the second half of the equation,... creating real fans of the fab four that's not just people who like their #1s. So many people bought "#1" and think they know all of the Beatles really good songs. I want the music to come to iTunes just so people have instant access to 30-second previews of all their music and decide to download the albums because of the awesome, lesser-known tracks.
The Beatles music is so good, you want everyone to experience all of it, not just a relative few songs.

Having never lived in a city with an Apple store before, is it standard practice for new iPods to be available the day of an event? (And if so, how does that work with regards to timing? Do they hold stock until the big announcements are made, or what? And are they in stock at all their stores, or just U.S. locations... in Canada here.)
I've been holding out despite the fact that my well-loved second-gen Nano is on its last legs, knowing that the Touch is due for what should be a pretty nice upgrade.

Exactly. I personally think stuff like Tomorrow Never Knows, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, A Day In The Life, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Dear Prudence, Here Comes The Sun, I Want You (She's So Heavy), the entire Abbey Road medley, In My Life, I Am The Walrus and Rain blows away most of the stuff on the "#1" compilation - The Beatles were very much an album band, their LPs hold up very, very well and the singles and tracks that most people know are only a tiny sample of their great range of material. Give me Revolver, The White Album or Abbey Road over any of their 'greatest hits' compilations any day.

If a $200 iPod can have the same functionality as an AppleTV it will completely replace it, there isn't room for both products that do the same. The Mac slideshow on the main site also doesn't show the AppleTV, i think its going to be phased out.
Adding some extra functionality like surfing, email and app-store would eat to much into Mac sales. Apple could sell a AppleTV-on-a-chip to cable-box and television manufacturers, that would explain old rumors of Apple entering the TV business.

For the first time I can remember since I switched to the enlightened side I'm completely unexcited by this event. I hope something truly radical is announced but I can't see it really.
Honestly, talk of tablets etc. are all very interesting but to me what is desperately needed is a proper, built from the ground up in a way only Apple can do Home Media Server, to finally mesh together iLife with real life. It could be a revamped appletv or mac mini or a new product all together but SOMETHING that can occupy the area of sharing content across laptops, computers, iphone, tv in and outside the home in a seamless way with some kind of check-in/check-out shared update feature is incredibly needed.
But... I wont hold my breath....

That's for sure. The amount of background hiss alone on some of the old recordings is enough to make me throw away some of my old CDs. Some of them include the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Iron Butterfly. Remastering them doesn't help. I bought the Complete Led Zeppelin when it was remastered once again two years ago, and the hiss on some of them makes me wish I never bought them, seriously.

I just got my stereo set in the mail today (a day early, awesome :D), and I can safely say that the remasters sound ten times better then the old CDs, especially on their first four albums - they sound amazing in stereo as opposed to the old mono versions (especially Beatles For Sale, that was just amazing to listen to). The recordings sound a lot clearer, and even on their earlier albums there's a lot of stuff that I've picked up on that I've never heard before (the bass pedal squeaking in All I've Got To Do has turned from a mere annoyance to downright infuriating, that's how much it's been cleaned up :p). Overall I'm very, very pleased with them, every single album really does sound a lot better then the old CDs.
However, in saying this, bear in mind that the remasters that will be 'commercially' available are all in stereo now (previously the first four albums were only available in mono on CD) - it's possible that the mono box set does have some hiss on these albums even after the remastering, but as that's a limited collector's box 95% of consumers will only ever hear the stereo versions which are definitely a massive improvements over the 1980's discs.

Why? They are no different that any of the other bands that people buy music from everyday.
Hardly - those listening to them are from a broader range than, say, the Arctic Monkeys and Lady GaGa, so won't sacrifice quality on such a deserving band.
If Steve shows up on stage and says 'Oh, one more thing... you can buy Beatles tunes at the ITMS now', I'm going to cry/laugh/cry/jump/roll/uh, don't know what else. :D
Not holding breath given Apple Records' history with 'the other Apple', but if that ever happens in my own lifetime, I'll be pretty thrilled. Even more so if it's in two days from now. :)
Why? We've had it all for decades now and in far better quality.

Not really since the iPod Touch/iPhone 3GS would have limited storage and probably won't offer output over HDMI (via a new dock). However, there is no reason why Apple couldn't use the existing universal dock with component video output to support HD playback from a new iPod Touch and the existing iPhone 3GS since it has been shown that the 3GS can play 720p HD content just fine (and such a capability would be a nice upstaging of the Zune HD). Also, I'd expect the Apple TV interface to be a little easier to use since it is designed exclusively for use on wide-screen TVs. Apple could create a new app for the iPod/iPhone to better support playback via the TV but the Apple TV's larger storage capacity and 802.11n wireless support just makes for a better overall solution. Also, the Apple TV has multi-channel, optical audio output so even if the iPod Touch and iPhone 3GS were upgraded to support 720p video you'd still get a better theater experience with the Apple TV (HDMI and multi-channel output).

The 160 GB was using both sides of the same disk as the 80. Since it had a pickup arm on both sides, the package was thicker. The case of the old Classic was thick enough to accomodate both.
The disk in the current Classic is a little denser—120 GB/side. If you used both sides, it would be 240, but unfortunately they've made the case of the unit thinner, precluding that possibility.

A few years ago, there were a few "unofficial" Beatles remasters (one called "Dr. Ebbetts" remasters) and they were beyond stunning. The difference between these remasters and the regular Beatles CD's was immediately detectable.

There is no reason the universal dock for the Touch could not have HD video output and support the standard remote control, The only difference would then be the smaller hard drive and slower network speeds.
If Apple wants to hold on to the aTV we can safely assume that they won't ad these features to the dock, the Touch and aTV can't be competing products.

Wrong wrong wrong.
The 80GB and 120GB classics used 5mm single platter drives. The 160GB used an 8mm double-platter drive. It used two of the 80GB platters. There is a 240GB 8mm drive they could've used in the thicker platter but the 160GB sold so poorly there was no need.

I'm sure its been mentioned, but I'd have thought if Apple did have the Beatles catalogue coming, its something they'd be shouting from the roof, so we'd be seeing Beatles-themed posters everywhere, even if it was just a subtle hint (in the colour or design of the posters) rather than an absolute give away. They'd get much more interest and media coverage and excitement rather than just springing it on the attendees.

Seriously, my old Sony media player which I bought in the EIGHTIES had the following features:
1. Auto Reverse

Frankly, until Apple pull their fingers out and put these features on one of their media players, I'm not interested.

Wow, yeah. I forgot those. And I'm pretty sure they were usually lossless too. In fact rather than losing sound, you even gained quite a lot of treble! Brilliant.
And you got much better value for money on the bundled personal speakers in those days too. Instead of these tiny little 'ear-buds' you get these days, my Sony player came with something called 'head-phones' which were much bigger and covered in a lovely fetching orange foam, with a handy little band which went over your hair and ensured they never fell off. The more I think about it, the more I believe we're going backwards with technology... :(

Plenty of nice headphones out there these days. Look up Grado, for example. But you won't get them bundled with your ipod (or any other gadget). The crappy "ear buds" that get bundled with ipod these days go straight into the trash.

My son got a free iPod with his laptop; it went straight on eBay and sold for $189.50 they won't be fetching $150.00 after the camera version is announced.

Which makes it even more of a shame that Apple have been incrementally reducing the quality of the output stage on their iPods over the past few iterations. I still haven't heard an iPod that beats my iPod 5g which is coming up to 4 years old now.
The one thing I'm really hoping for in the new iPod lineup is a return to the inclusion of a respectable analogue stage.
As for the comments about "true" Beatles fans snubbing the downloaded versions of the songs based on sound quality - if you can reliably spot the difference between a 16/44.1 CDDA rip vs a 256kbps AAC in a double blind test on a non-critical listening system then I'd be absolutely amazed. If you DO have a critical listening system then what are you doing playing compressed music formats on it from ANY artist?

I doubt the first 12,000 would slow production too much to delay day-of-keynote release, at least that is what I'm hoping as I have been another one of those that has been holding out ready to buy it the day it comes out. I just hope that if there is a delay it's more like this weekend than 2 weeks, waiting anymore would not be much fun. Definitely looking forward to the event. The 32GB will be hot in my hands the day I can get it.
3.1 should be released.

What's with all these lame "media events"? Why can't they just release new products like everyone else. Why do they need a "media event" just to announce a bigger ipod or a new iTunes? So what? Seems kind of overblown to me.
Because they can.:apple:

It's not on the Mac slideshow, it's on the iPod+iTunes slideshow.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/
Which just goes to show that an AppleTV update is fair game for this iPod+iTunes event.
I really didn't expect the aTV to be categorized as an iPod, guess it can go both way's now. An updated aTV or the ipod updated with aTV functionality.

Because the press attends and generates a great deal of publicity, which helps Apple sell its products.

Ah, there's nothing like analysts spreading a little extra BS before the keynote to lower the stock price of Apple for a better buy when the keynote finally does come out.
Was my first thought. You know how they say "Buy on rumor, sell on news". Well, what's better than a bad rumor followed by good news. And if Apple comes out with a surprise for the One More Thing, then even better news.
By the way, I'm betting that the one more thing this time will not only be a product announcement, but Steve Jobs coming out on stage to close the show himself. You know how he is the master of the reveal, what better thing to reveal than his return to Apple.
He can't leave the media and shareholders to stew for another 4 months with speculations of his health. Either he makes an appearance or people will start to get worried more and more about his health.

I think it's about time that the iPod caught up with some technology that music players had years ago. Features that the iPod, for all its plaudits, has NEVER had...
Seriously, my old Sony media player which I bought in the EIGHTIES had the following features:
1. Auto Reverse
2. Dolby B
3. Chrome and Metal settings
4. Unlimited storage (replaceable music 'cassettes')
5. MegaBass(TM)
Frankly, until Apple pull their fingers out and put these features on one of their media players, I'm not interested.
hahahaha...
this so funny man....hahahah..
i love u man..keep the good humor.

1. Purchase The Beatles Remastered Box Set
2. Rip it all
3. Why so much excitement for it to be on the iTunes Store?
They enjoy paying more for less quality. Or maybe the Beatles sound better with a lower quality recording. I only thought that one of their songs sounded good enough to listen to. That was my opinion when I was in high school when their shouting, (singing) was first made. My opinion has not changed since then. So in my opion, Who Cares.

Paul McCartney wouldn't authorize it until after Michael Jackson died in order to amass a greater revenue for himself from royalties.. He is still pissed at MJ for stealing the catalog from him.. LOL

I grew up with the Beatles and there is plenty of CD's out there to buy and rip into the iPhone.
The new remastered material and videos can be obtained here: http://www.thebeatles.com/
I am sure you can move them to iTunes, and get all the content that is ussualy missing from downloaded songs. Not only that, but if you need to, you can always re-import the songs into iTunes anytime you want, even years later.
I still like to have physical media.
Why is it so important that iTunes sell their songs?
I do not get it.

Are you new to the Apple world? It's called marketing and it's been like this since even before the return of Steve Jobs.
Apple is only company that can command the attention the worldwide tech media at each and every event.

I finally finished my business in Vegas, and got back to San Francisco. so it's time to rock & roll tomorrow? that always makes me excited. I guess that's why iTunes store didn't update for new free songs, music video, TV shows last night. so it's definitely right that Apple will announce iTunes 9.0. by the way, the title "it's only rock & roll' means really only rock & roll tomorrow? no more new product? (ha ha ha I'm just kidding).:D

well, we all know that we can buy CD and rip to itunes whayever you want. but that's not the point. the point is that long battle between Apple and Beattles could be ended beautifully under every agreement? because they use the same name 'apple' as record company. that's why it has significant when their entire albums will be available from iTunes.
Is this tablet thing still happening?
Despite all the naysayers, my hunch is yes. The device would after all be a close relative of the iPod Touch. Maybe they will consider the tablet part of the iPod line?

I basically agree for this event. If this event is just to announce newer iPods, it seems like a big waste of money. But hey, Apple can spend their money however they want.
Me? I wouldn't wait in line or go to a "show" that is simply going to state "the new ipods have X Y and Z and they will be available in 2 weeks...have a nice day". Not to mention the iPod is on it's 6th generation...it's not a new product line or next killer toy.
I'll follow the show live on the web...or at worst I will go the Apple website later this week and see what changes have been announced.

Exactly. This time last year they had nothing to announce because everything leaked. This year the lid has been kept on the rumors apart from "They are adding cameras".

The media events are for the press only. It's not Macworld. Unless you're a select member of the press or an Apple employee, you're not going to have to worry about going to an Apple media event. Heh.

Would they really have a huge show just for a 3mp camera and a capacity bump? Surely we will see something awesome tomorrow?
I remind you they once held an event simply to announce the iPod hifi...
That said, I only hope for larger iPod classics and a new and improved iTunes.
I also suspect that there will be some Beatles connection, given the 9-9-09 Beatles blitz, but I've been wrong about that before - either way I'm buying the physical box sets, so I've got no dog in the fight.
