I've been reading mixed reviews about the Seagate Momentus 7200RPM 500GB drive (ST9500420AS). Apparently the shock sensor in the drive isn't compatible with the sudden motion sensor in the MacBooks?

Has anyone had experience with this specific drive? I have an early-2008 blackbook.

Most everyone I know has gone with either the Scorpio Blue or Scorpio Black.

Your sentiment is correct. There are very mixed reviews of the Seagate.

I'd really like to go with a WD, but I figure that if I'm gonna replace my drive, might as well be 500GB. It seems the WD drives are only available in 320GB, or 500GB with 5400RPM.

They do make the seagates without the motion sensor. I've had one in my uMB for about four months without any problems than some vibration.

The wd blue 5400 is supposed to be pretty speedy as well.

I'm gonna just get the Seagate ST9500420AS. I need a new drive, and might as well invest in a quicker drive. Can't wait to have 500GB. I wish there were reasonably priced SSD's in that size. :)

For the record, the drive works perfectly. No noise or vibration issues, in fact i think it's a bit quieter than my old drive.

So far so good, just copying my ~200GB of data onto it now.
