Yup, that's precisely what I did with mine.

I got the drive, connected it to my Mac, and then ran Disk Utility. I created 3 partitions. One with a Time Machine setup, 1 HFS+ (general Mac storage of stuff), and 1 FAT32 (for my gf's HP laptop, could have done NTFS, but it was easier just to do FAT32 real quick with Disk Utility).

I think I set the drive to MBR for the boot type, just so it could be used with my gf's PC more easily, but I don't remember off-hand.
