Why is it that music CD's cost 14.99??? When their actual value is only about 99 cents. You see, the way I see it, when you buy a radio for your car, you are paying for the ACTUAL radio, not the music.. The music is free once the radio is all paid and done for. When you buy a cd, how come you gotta pay more for cd than its actually worth? Its not worth more than that of a cdr. Hypocracy, I say.

You have to pay for advertising and deliver costs of the CD. The artists also have to get paid. That is why all the uproar with illegal downloads. It was the artists getting hurt in the wallet.

Radios can send you "free" music because all radio stations have sponsers which supply the cash which in turn goes to some fat cat at the recording industry. Nothing is free, someone somewhere is paying for it.

You're comparing apples and oranges. The radio is the mechanism that converts electromagnetic waves into sound. It is a middleman. You pay for the mechanism to do so. It is comparable to a CD player, not a CD. The CD holds the actual music itself. It allows the convenience of replay and gives you a product in your hands. You cannot (legally) record the contents of a radio broadcast and if you did, you would obtain a low-quality recording.

As others have said, there are many overhead costs that go into providing a CD filled with tracks of music. Because radio stations by licenses for that music and play advertisements to cover the cost of those licenses and to cover other costs, they pass their service on to you, the consumer, for free. If CD's came with ads to which you were forced to listen, then maybe they would be cheaper.

Value is such a subjective thing isn't it? That shiny new G5 you got today will be barely worth half the price 2 years from now. Sigh.

yes, because things people post online is and will always be a joke.

There are certain costs for a cd, but indeed most of the money goes to the companys that own the music, RIAA, the Big Corporations.

Ahhh, so when you bought your CD-player you thought you would receive free CD's from the manufacturer as well.

What a disappointment, you had to pay for them yourself.
This is not fair.. :D
