What is this effect called - image gallery blackout background, large image

Hi guys,

Sorry for the vague title but I'm stumped at how to describe the effect i'm after. I can't find an example even though I know they are out there. It's when you get a photo gallery and you click on an image and the page grays out and the image appears in large on the center of the page - sort of like a popup.

The best example I can find is here http://www.ebuyer.com/product/154970/ when you click either video or gallery and a "popup" appears. Anyone have any idea how this is done?

Thanks for that Dal123 - am very impresses you managed to understand what I meant by my awful description!! I've gone with floatbox as I'm actually using .swf files rather than images. Thanks again!
