since there is another even in october, I doubt that we'll see an announcement for the mac tablet or anything besides music oriented products. After all, it's called the apple "media" event for a reason.

You just made my week even more with the link. I'm a 31 years old partying right now and haven't heard that mentioned in almost 5 years from a friend. Every time I post on this board I feel like I'm talking to a 15 year old. Thanks for the link. I totally forgotten about that post and I've been reading MacRumors for a while now. All I care about is making iTunes faster with people larger than a 10,000 song library (not torrented).

If you come to NYC anytime PM me. Drinks are me.

Yoko Ono spills the beans on Apple event tomorrow.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10596228

Yoko Ono has dropped a Beatles bombshell on Sky News in the UK - saying that the entire Beatles back catalogue will be made available on iTunes.

But the story was shortlived on the pay TV network's website - pulled down almost immediately after it was posted.

Ono's comments pre-empted a mysterious Apple press conference tomorrow US time - the same day that the remastered Beatles' catalogue and the long-awaited The Beatles: Rock Band game was to be released.

It is unclear whether the story was taken down due to an Apple complaint.

Apple news site 9to5Mac is saying a Sky News staffer "told us they were told to cut the story out immediately and not to comment. Directive came "from the very top".

The Financial Times knocked back Ono's comments, quoting EMI global catalogue boss Ernesto Schmitt saying: "Conversations between Apple and EMI are ongoing and we look forward to the day when we can make the music available digitally. But it's not tomorrow."

The most likely scenario, it would seem, is that the iPod line is getting refreshed, but many believe the Ono info is correct.

Others are picking that Apple's much-rumoured tablet PC - like a giant iPhone - will be announced.

Google's cache of the original story can be found here.

All will be revealed when the Apple event takes place tomorrow morning, New Zealand time.

iTunes-the Windows version will most likrly include QuickTime 7.6.3-and not a version based on QuickTime X's UI and feature set.

You made me laugh and I don't mean that in a offensive way with the yellow box reference. iTunes on Windows would require a complete redesign on the Windows side if they went with 64bit Cocoa and it has to be mIntained. It's interesting that he says this as iTunes is already in a sense a browser, albeit a specialized one.

Itunes on Windows does require a complete redesign - it is simply gross. An alien pig of an application.

Forget Cocoa - make it C# and .NET.... It might have a chance then....

Full story link. (http://www.tigerdirect.com/email/WEM2019.asp?SRCCODE=WEM2019C&cm_mmc=Email-_-Main-_-WEM2019-_-post)

"Full story" is a:

2.66 Quad Core i5
Intel Motherboard
4 GiB OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666
1 GB 7200 drive
Mid-tower case (black, not beige ;) )
550 watt PS

for under $600...

Apple would never use OCZ memory in a shipping Mac-most likely this system is from a PC vendor (and of course not related to iPods).

True, no one needs an ipod. No one needs a mac.

3 needs in life. Food, water and shelter. The rest are wants.

Totally agree but it seems I always think I won't need it and then when I get home I get "Why didn't you answer me? I needed you to _________"

turn it on vibrate then.

My predictions:

No Beatles related announcement
iPod nano fifth generation introduction, featuring camera.
Similar range of colors like last year's models for nano
touch-camera, faster processor and GPU, oleophobic screen coating.
classic-120GB model refreshed, includes earphones with remote and mic
iTunes 9
Cocktail format introduced
No tablet announcement
One more thing: standard non remote/mic earbuds discontinued, replaced by remote/mic version-bundled with every new iPod

My predictions-the results:

No Beatles related announcement Correct
iPod nano fifth generation introduction, featuring camera. Correct
Similar range of colors like last year's models for nano Correct
touch-camera, faster processor and GPU, oleophobic screen coating. Partly correct-no camera, but OpenGL ES 2.0 support would mean it has a new CPU/GPU, no info on if the screen coating was changed
classic-120GB model refreshed, includes earphones with remote and mic Wrong-160GB, comes with standard earbuds and not the remote and mic ones
iTunes 9 Correct
Cocktail format introduced correct-Seems to be iTunes LP
No tablet announcement Correct
One more thing: standard non remote/mic earbuds discontinued, replaced by remote/mic version-bundled with every new iPod
Partly correct-only touch and shuffle includes the remote/mic version

So in all, I was a little accurate with my predictions.

I agree. I've used it on Windows XP. On the Mac it's unbearable. On Windows it's almost impossible. That's why even though I disagree with Gruber, sometimes, it's a possibillity if it's fast enough. Windows is as important (if not moreso) to iTunes as the Mac is now.

I can imagine Jobs thinking the exact same thing as well. He must have unlimited access to songs and his iTunes library has to be 10x as much as mine and he must loathe it. With the update to Office 2008, it has become the slowest app on my Mac and I'm an avid iTunes user to its fullest extent.

You are also welcome to drinks on me if you ever come by NYC Aiden.

I bring my iPhone into health clubs all the time and see other smart phones with cameras all the time in the gym.

Many schools have banned cell phones from locker rooms. Just a few cases of some pervert posting naked pictures on myspace and that rule gets established pretty quickly. Worse: video.

My health club has a strict no cell phone use in locker room policy, because of the camera problem. It wouldn't be too far of a stretch - if ipods have cameras - to see that policy extended to camera ipods too.

Fixed

.Net (MONO) on Unix is a load of sloppy brown cheese cake. (Just use Banshee or Gnome) Cocoa is a relatively good Framework, it just needs competent programmers.

As far as I can tell the MacOSX, Quicktime/iTunes, iWork and iLife teams are separate.

Wow, looks like the only option in that case if you wanted to bring it would be to either cover up your camera so they can't see it, or else break it so it's clearly unusable.

Don't kill the iPod Classic. I like the feel of having it in my pocket and being able to press a button to change tracks. I doubt they would because there is still a market for these and games are still being developed for them.

iPod Touch and all these touch screens just don't give the satisfaction and tactile feedback of pressing a button.

I hope they bring out the iPod Classic with a larger screen, interface and a bump in size to 240GB.

If by "iconic" you mean "POS," I agree. But if you really mean "iconic" well so are polyester leisure suits, but that still doesn't mean I'd be proud to say I ever wore one (fortunately, I was only a kid back then or I'd have a lot of 'splaning to do.)

Seriously, the iPod buds are common $2 pack-ins... except they are white. Oohrah? White earbuds are passe and boring now -- much like iPods in general. Apple might as well change them to something more postmodern to titillate the masses. Better yet, make them so tiny you don't even notice them. That will get attention.

If Leica was in a strategic alliance w/ Apple they wouldn't be holding a SEPARATE even that CONFLICTS with Apples. Leica would be at the event. But let's face it how many people outside camera bugs know who Leica is? Also you may have forgotten that Leica is already in a "strategic alliance" with Panasonic.

I'm hoping the Apple TV is updated, per the rumors. I have held out from buying one for a long while now as I was waiting for it to offer just a little bit more. The biggest thing for me and my trusty macbook pro is keeping my HDD free and movies in iTunes are doing some serious damage in that regard. I've heard and read that you can throw your entire iTunes library on the Time Machine (or comparable networked HDD setup), but I'd like to see that developed into something more robust with communication with an apple tv. My understanding right now is that it would work (in a source to laptop stream then again streamed to apple tv - whew...) But wouldn't it be awesome if the apple tv could talk directly to a time capsule like a media server or even sit on the network itself with all the media, and be accessable by the itunes on your computer AND your home theater? Netflix? Or (this really means AND because I don't really just want them to pick ONE) how about letting Apple TV stream your DESKTOP to your TV and let you operate in the living room? :D

One of the banners says, "OSX - No longer just a Mac thing."

That'd be one hell of an announcement. If Apple could pull of OSX on non-Apple boxes and somehow make the experience even close to that on an Apple machine (that's a whole other debate) I would support it... ultimately it makes no difference to me so I don't really care, as long as they can pull it off.. but again, despite the armchair quarterbacking on these forums about Apple's decision, I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing.

Obviously the new iPods which have been heavily discussed. The idea being to restore the iPod touch to being basically an iPhone without the phone. Bring it up to date with gps, video camera, etc. Colour choice as well/

iPod Nanos with cameras seem a pointless gimick, but i guess that is all it is, a gimick to boost sales.

No idea about the iPod classic, I mean it has to stay the same to fulfill its name.

The Beatles will debut on iTunes, they will be the launch pad for Cocktail. People have said it makes no sense to launch the Beatles on iTunes at the same time as the physical albums as one will be able to buy the individual tracks rather than the albums.

I believe that you will only be able to buy the albums in their entirety on iTunes, in the Cocktail format.

I also believe that Cocktail can also be used by the film industry to provide a more DVD like experience through iTunes. Extras, artwork, Director's commentary, etc.

That's my lot.

From what I've read about the speculation on the cocktail format, that sounds exactly would it could be used for. This is an aside, sorry, but I think AN aspect of social networking that I like is that it allows me to be a part of more people's lives that I wouldn't otherwise be. By that I mean that like most people I probably have a handful or two of friends that I speak with and see regularly and then a secondary circle of ther friends I occasionally talk with but rarely see and probably even a third circle of people that I have nothing against but just don't talk to or see. With things like Facebook and Twitter I can see what they're up to (or what they're sharing at least) without having to speak with them one on one. It's not the same as your close friends, but just a different type of relationship. Just my opinion though, I get what you're saying.

There are some friends that I would like to know what they're listening to because I might find out about new bands, but others that I don't care to hear (similarly, friends that I would like to share with, other friends that I don't care if they know). Generally it's not something I would go out of my way to tell anyone but if it's automated I might make use of it.

wait what

Yeah, that's going unnoticed, maybe it's a joke and it went over my head... but maybe it's a potentially awesome announcement.

Maybe it was sarcasm. No other sites are picking up on this, and it sounds HUGE.

Yeah I keep refreshing 3 or 4 other rumor sites, but nothing. It's not like I would bet money on it (it's just a random post on a forum) but I'm more surprised that more people didn't react to it... I guess some people probably read it, didn't take it seriously and ignored it.. I probably should have done that too

One of the banners says, "OSX - No longer just a Mac thing."

What?!

Come on people. 2 years and you are still getting confused by this.

iPod Touch runs OS X.

That's it.

The Touch runs OS X?

in the first iPhone keynote they said 'the iPhone runs OS X'.

so technically he's right because that's what they said.

either way that doesn't have anything to do with the banner that was said to be hanging there. whatever it was probably a joke anyways

Anyone notice that Pearl Jam's new upcoming "Backspacer" album has an iTunes 9 reference in the Album Notes section?

Was iTunes 9 not already a given?

Well, Apple sort of misleads the public on this. The iPhone OS (which is now officially what they call it) was derived from Mac OS X. It runs on Darwin. It's quite a bit different from what I understand.

It's not like the Apple TV, where OS X is running in the background and you interface with it via a fancy UI.

Spoiler free link?

Usually by this time there's already a post about it on the MacRumors front page.

Yea, I'm bummed too. I have always used the MacRumors Spoiler Free link to watch the keynote.

I guess I'm going to have to try to get my wife to do the search and provide me with a spoiler free link.

Yeah but what is iTunes LP? Maybe that's the cocktail thing? I know Apple now has those digital 45s, maybe the LP is a throwback to reading extensive liner notes (and then adding in videos as well, which I imagine Apple will do with this cocktail format, but admittedly has nothing to do with LP) and is what the cocktail codename will come to be known as.

Can you watch a live video feed of this? That's the only thing that would get me to stay up. And I hope iTunes 9 has some cool new features, and I wouldn't mind it being a bit faster and coming out tonight!

Any idea what they mentioned? I've been reading some many different variations of the iPod rumors I'm not entirely sure what they said.

Good find! "iTunes LP" is no doubt the commercial name for "cocktail". An advanced digital album booklet would of course only be available with the new iTunes. I think Pearl Jam slipped on this one :)

I was partly right about at least of the iPod's including the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic-the touch has these instead of the standard earbuds.

Review in RED

Obviously the new iPods which have been heavily discussed. The idea being to restore the iPod touch to being basically an iPhone without the phone. Bring it up to date with gps, video camera, etc. Colour choice as well.

Nope. But I believe the Touch now looks desperately in need of a video camera. I assume it was genuinely held up by manufacturing and this will turn up soon? But i was wrong on this.

iPod Nanos with cameras seem a pointless gimick, but i guess that is all it is, a gimick to boost sales.

Yup. But it was obvious. So me saying it was pointless.

iPod classic, I mean it has to stay the same to fulfill its name.

Yup. Obvious as well.

Nope. I shouldn't have predicted anything Beatles and iTunes related. IDIOT.

I also believe that Cocktail can also be used by the film industry to provide a more DVD like experience through iTunes. Extras, artwork, Director's commentary, etc.

EPIC WIN. I haven't seen this reported / rumoured anywhere else so

3/5. Which means… I'm better than every analyst.

Thank you and goodnight.
