I'm trying to install the 168.81 ForceWare drivers for my 9600M GT (256MB) in Windows 7 x64. The drivers from Boot Camp on the Snow Leopard DVD installed fine. I want 168.81 because I always like to have the latest drivers for everything.

Anyway, when installing it, it says something about not having the required hardware and it won't install.

Any ideas? Is the Boot Camp drivers the only way of having the latest drivers.

Are you sure they're the latest? I have 190.62 on W7 x64.

I looked for:
Product Type: GeForce
Product Series: GeForce 9M Series (Notebooks)
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit

And it says:
Version: 186.61
Release Date: 2009.08.27
Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit

So is there a way of installing these drivers, or can I only install the boot camp ones (whenever there are updates)?

Anyone? I'd like to stay as up-to-date as possible with my drivers.

I'm downloading the one from laptopvideo2go.com. Will install those. It's version 186.91.

You're in windows now - you can update the drivers directly from the manufacturer of the part. In this case nvidia. Worked fine for me on Win 7 x64.

Have you read my first post? You'd know why I'm having problems.

Those are the latest drivers for my 9600M GT. When trying to install it, I get this error:

If you just so happened to have installed it on yours, let me know.

I was just going through the same issue and had to settle for the drivers on the bootcamp disk. What benefit are you really going to get from the most recent driver anyways? I doubt you will see any big performance gains with it.

While that may be totally true, I just like to have the latest updates for everything. I'm weird like that :D.

The bootcamp drivers are about 5 months old. The new drivers may bring some sort of improvement.

Like I said, I installed the nvidia drivers for my 9400m w/o any problems. I picked the Win 7 x64 driver set for (IIRC) ION. It's odd that it'd work for 9400m but not 9600m.

It may be that Nvidia have yanked the vendor strings for the MBP 9600m out of the inf file so the 7 drivers aren't recognised anymore likely at the request of Apple, simalar to how they don't work with Sony's or Lenovo's until they release their versions.

You'll have to stick with an earlier Nivdia driver (they have earlier builds in the archive) or try getting the laptopvideotogo's to work..

I installed them for my MBP 13" for Windows 7 a couple of days ago and got the translucent theme to work. But then the next day it wasn't working anymore, so I tried installing the drivers again and I got that message that stated that there wasn't a driver that was compatible with my machine.

Okay, so I found out that the Aero theme won't work when I run Windows 7 virtually using VMWare Fusion, but when I run it using Bootcamp then it runs correctly, and even the game that I own that won't run on VMWare will run on bootcamp. It's probably just because the version I have doesn't officially support Windows 7.

Don't even think about getting good performance in a virtual machine as compared to running a OS natively via boot camp. It's virtual. And the only virtual machine app for mac that even supports Aero is VMware Fusion 3.

I just think it's an Nvidia thing. I guess they want people who use Windows via Boot Camp to use Apple's Nvidia drivers.

nope, i got it to work. you have to replace some file in the nvidia thing you download. someone posted a link to how to do it somewhere... i'll find it.
here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=8596214

in my case my key was the same as this guys. i copied all the text in the file that the dude tells you to download then opened the nvidia file and pasted it. saved, ran the setup and it worked perfectly. hope you have the same luck!
