View Full Version : Oh boo, a rear-facing microphone?

Looking at the "leaked" picture of the new ipod touch 3G I see that there appears to be a small hole next to the camera. So we are getting a microphone on the back? I was hoping the microphone would be on the front for things like skype. Still the microphone I'm sure will mostly be used for recording video so I suppose it makes sense to put it on the back?

Does the iphone have a microphone on the front and back? or just the front? If the iphone records video just fine with a microphone in the front then I don't see why they would move it to the back.

I doubt that tiny little hole can be used as a mic.

The mic will probably be on the left side of the dock connector IMO.

You'd be surprised. Microphones can be incredibly tiny, in fact many phones have a microphone that small. (At least most non-smartphones I've seen)

I couldn't care less about Apple headphones, if they can even be called that. I use only my Grados and my IEM's.

It'll more likely be a recording LED.

Well hopefully we'll be getting the headphones with the mic

You'll probably be forced to shell out another $30 for it.

Mic will likely be where we can use it most. How else can we play Smule games if it's on the back end? :)

DUH you guys, that dot is a light thingy sensor, if its a real ipod touch at all;)

That's one of the reasons I want a microphone :D

Is it possible the second hole in the back is a light sensor so the camera can adjust exposure?

And does the iphone have this second hole? I imagine it would be pretty similar.

WHY would it be a light sensor to adjust exposure?! What's wrong with the 3mp sensor right next to it?

The mic will probably be on the left side of the dock connector IMO.

They're that tiny on all Macbooks/Macbook Pros and the quality is quite decent. Also, if they do put a mic on the iPod, that's where it'll probably have to go, unless they make some major design changes.
