does anyone know a player that will allow me to play flac files? i have heard that macamp can but, i was told they are out of business and i can not find it anywhere.

The previous yahoos just gave you a converter, both of which use the CLI version of FLAC for encoding/decoding. Although, xAct seems to be the replacement for MacFLAC since the developer stopted and xAct credits the developer for MacFLAC for code.
As for the player, VLC (video lan client) is the only player that I know of that is free. I'd like to know if there is a more complete player that will modify tags and is possibly applescriptable.

Although, xAct seems to be the replacement for MacFLAC since the developer stopted and xAct credits the developer for MacFLAC for code.Duff-Man says...you right....I (perhaps incorrectly) assumed that the person was getting stuff from the live music archive and was going to burn to audio cd, which is what I use xAct for.....and hey....who you callin' a yahoo ;) .....oh yeah!
(oh, and xAct does let you write/edit flac tags...)

You can run xmms (with xmms-flac) under X11. fink has ports that are very easy to install.

MacAmp Lite X, which has been discontinued but can still be found, along with the FLAC plugin may be the only player for Mac OS X.
Someone said VLC works, but it didn't play my FLAC files...
