after i installed my raid card, i created a striped raid of 2 harddrives thinking boot will be faster. wrong. boot does speed up but u have to add the time for the card to initialize. mine was taking close to 20 seconds for the apple logo to show at start up. then i count boot from there so as not to be disappointed.
hopefully this update fixes or improves initialization.
During OS run, the speed of file transfer and application start up nearly doubled. in my opinion, this card is a little (severely) overpriced but good none the less.

I have the 2600 Pro, but the update didn't appear in Software Update? (I'm using 10.5.8).

I'm getting the same message. I am currently running Snow Leopard, perhaps it was included?

I'd be surprised given that it is a firmware update that needs to be written directly to the hardware itself.

Yes, though my iMac has 2600 ATI card, but it says I didn't need this update.
What's wrong?

clearly something is either a miss or the iMacs with ATI HD 2600 pro do not need it, I never updated my iMac ROM since purchasing my iMac back in 11/2007, so it either got fix with SL, or there is something a miss with the installer.

same message as all the above posts. Maybe I don't have "PRO"? I have same card as above posted screenshot and it says I don't need this update as well.
I am still on Leopard 10.5.8 so......?
Thought it was kewl :apple: released an update for my imac, but not so much!

I'm on a 24" iMac from early 2008 and it says I don't need it. Very odd.

Mine is also telling me that I don't need the update.
But I have ROM revision: 113-B2250L-259
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.259
iMac model: 8.1
HD 2600 Pro
Running SL 6.1
I haven't done any firmware updates, so what's up with this posted update?

As the rest of you I have the ATI 2600 and it SHOULD need updating... because in SL it sporadically turns my ext monitor on and off. This is under the 64-bit system kernel.

Sweet cheeks, there is a reason why it boots using the 32bit kernel by default.

My iMac with a 2600 pro running 10.6 gives the same alert, also didn't show up in software update, so I guess it's for a different version of OSX?

I have both (two iMacs) and they both are saying I don't need the update. Running 10.6 and 10.6.1.

Same here. What model is this update for then? I've never had a ROM update available for my iMac's video chipset since I bought it in 10/2007

Indeed. I have the early 2008 iMac 20" model and it runs fine on the 32-bit kernel but on the 64-bit one every so often it makes my monitor do the change resolution dance, so to speak. The flash you get when you make changes to your resolution settings... although the resolution never changes... the screen just goes off and right back on. No problems under Leopard or SL 32bit so I know its not the monitor or cables.
My guess is it MIGHT be changing the screen refresh but in summary yes there is a reason for the 32bit kernel.
Hope they fix it soon!

Firmware releases should be independent of the installed OS. It may be that only certain versions of the 2600/2400 need this update like those with VRAM from a particular supplier, for instance.

Is there anyone who actually got the firmware installed?
I get the same message that it's not needed.

I think I have spent too much time in efforts to determine why I was not able to install this iMac firmware update 1.0.2 - As far as I could tell NO ONE is able to install this thing. If anyone has any information contrary to that, please post it here and enlighten us.
If this firmware update applies to all users with the specified cards regardless of what their current firmware version is, then why is no one able to apply it.
If this firmware is only intended to specific iMac models / card version etc, then why the heck does apple not provide at least a minimal amount of information for everyone who has these cards.
Waaaay too little information and waaaay too much confusion.
Hello, im a MAC?
EDIT:
Softpedias (http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/iMac-Graphics-Firmware-Update.shtml) website says:
"
Requirements:
· Mac OS X 10.4.10 with iMac Software Update 1.2.1
· Mac OS X 10.5 with iMac Software Update 1.3
· iMac (Mid 2007)
"
... apparently they know more than what I found on the apple info page regarding this firmware update.

I unpacked the 1.0.2 and 1.0.1 Update package from last year and found two IMG files in /Contents/Resources/ATIFacelessFlash.app/Contents/Resources/. These seem to be the firmware images.
The images from 1.0.2 and 1.0.1 are the same (same md5 sum), so either Apple has only updated the actual Updater or I'm totally wrong on this ;)
The 1.0.1 Update is only for early 2008 iMacs, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL71

Could still be some people who never updated, though dangling improved stability and yanking it away is a sick joke. ;)

Now that I think about it I tried applying that one too and it didn't go.
I have the exact model this is supposed to be applied to with rev. 01.00.259 and this won't apply.
Frustrating as I feel this might fix the SL 64-bit kernel bug I am experiencing.
