iTMS Downloading Error! Suggestions?

When I try to download a song, i get an error message saying I don't have write access to the music folder, and to check the permissions in this folder. how do I do this? I am new to macs, so speak softly, slowly, and patiently. Any advice would be appreciated.

edit: I have heard of repairing permissions, but I don't know how to do that. could you give me a step by step if that may solve the problem?

Go to the Music folder (within your Users folder, under your name). Go file, Get Info. Under permissions, change it to your user name with Read and Write permissions. That's it. If anything else occurs, just post more.

I have read and write permissions, but I still can't download anything. Any other suggestions?

edit: The reason it didn't work was because I only had owner permissions to read and write. I needed to give owners read and write access too. Thanks for your help!

To repair permissions, open up Disk Utility in the Utilities folder. Select the boot volume and the option to repair permissions should be available in one of the tabs. (Sorry, not at my Mac so I can't say exactly which one.) Click it and wait for it to finish. This should fix the issue for you.

Do NOT repair permissions from the Utilities folder (as suggested above). Reason being: Permissions can still change as your computer is still performing tasks.

Instead, boot up from your OS X CD. Once booting has finished, go to the Disk Utility (I think from the File menu), click on the First Aid tab, select your Hard Drive/partition for it, and click on Repair Permissions. I know that explanation sounds sketchy, because that's how it is in my mind.

How do you boot from a CD? Do you just put it in and reboot, or what? BTW, this is just for future reference, as my problem has been fixed.

Can you repair permissions from the CD? I thought that it was only available for the boot volume (ie you must run it from the boot volume to repair permissions on said volume).

Capt. Underpants, you boot from the CD by resarting with the cd in the drive and holding down the 'C' key after you hear the starup chime.

You can repair permissions on any drive. I have multiple partitions, and I can repair permissions and repair the disk on those other partitions too.
