Am I the only one confused with 3.1 and beyond?

First, I realize what Apple is doing trying to prevent Jailbreaking from happening. However, what's going on with these IBES, ECID files, etc...is beyond me. I selected to let Cydia handle my files and when I enter Cydia it says my phone has a file stored. Then I read Jay's message a bit ago and it says everyone that asked for it to be stored and even though it says it is, it isn't or something to that affect. I dunno if I should restore to 3.0 now and hunt my own files, wait on him or just go with Apple...ugh! There has been no real information passed from Jay as to what's going on and what his intentions are with all these files he has from our phones. Heck, I dunno what data I passed to him from my phone to be honest.

Poster is referring to Jay Freeman (Saurik). I think at this point he has fixed the message on your phone so that if it still reads that there is an ECID SHSH on file, it truly has been generated. You can always shoot him a tweet at twitter.com/saurik to make sure.

If cydia says your ECID is stored, it has been. Saurik fixed the error that caused some people to get an incorrect confirmation message.

Do not attempt a restore to recover these files yourself. It is too late. Apple has stopped signing 3.0 versions of the OS for the 3GS. The only restore you can now do is to the 3.1 firmware.

As someone else said already, just wait for news from the Dev Team, and hope in the meantime you don't have to restore!
