View Full Version : Am I The Only One Waiting For 3.1 Jailbreak?

I'm sure you are too.
Mainly, the only reason i'm dying to jailbreak is the ability to rearrange apps within iTunes 9.
I know the Mac OS X app "movement" can do this but simply, I hate the functionality of it.
How can I be notified or aware of when 3.1 jailbreak for the iPod Touch is available?

I am waiting. Do you really think that the app organization is gonna work with a jailbroken phone? i doubt it since there are a ton of jailbroken stuff iTunes won't recognize. Five dollars says it doesn't work OTB.

See I think it would. All of my jailbroken apps appear in the apps section in my iTunes and i've always been able to click on them there, so what difference would it make with simply being able to rearrange them?

I used it to arrange 7 pages of apps after updating and to be honest did not find it all that flash or intuitive and sometimes quite laggy waiting for an icon to actually move once you drop it.
Would have been a lot more practical if all pages were thumbnailed at the bottom so you could see all of then at once rather than the current scroll bar set up on the right. It is just as cumbersome and slow as doing it on screen if you need to drag an icon from it's current position and scroll to a page that is not currently shown.

I mean with icons like BossPrefs, winterboard, etc, things that iTunes isn't going to natively recognize.

I'm waiting for it. Only so I can get the battery %, backup my iPod with the % activated, and restore from backup.

So how well does running apps in the background work? Does it consume power like crazy? Does it slow the whole device down?
I'm very likely getting a 3G touch, and am curious whether it'll be worth it to jailbreak.

I'd also like to know this stuff. But running apps in general sucks up battery. (Also, we need two jailbreaks. One for the 3G and one for the 3.1, if it's like the 2G [Where we had to wait a bit].)

You are right I didn't think of it like that. Well hopefully they will have the 2G one out soon.

i just updated to 3.1 and i'm actually kinda liking it, the only thing i used Jailbreaking for over the summer was bosspref's or whatever so my Touch screen wouldn't shut off when i had it hooked up in the car via Aux. (it was Auto Lock: off)
oh, and i had the Five Icon Dock, i do miss that...

Um. Yeah? Granted, my iPod is a RESTORED jailbroken one, but it retained several of the jailbreaking things, one of which is the blank apps i put on (along with the 2 hour backup and syncing times :D)

Actually you can already arrange your apps on a jailbroken touch. It doesn't support the five rows and five columns and five row dock either. But it does work well...

Any idea when the 3.1 will be released? How long does it usually take?

Last time, for the 2G, I believe it took 6 months to get released, but we don't know what the progress is, so it might come sooner than we expect.

It was actually posted yesterday...
THIS DOES NOT SUPPORT THE 3GS OR 2G/3G IPOD TOUCH. redsn0w for Mac OS X and Windows will follow sometime in the near future, please don’t bug us about it - we’ll release when we have something ready.

I too am waiting for the 3.1 iPhone jailbreak. I'm not really that bothered about having the device jailbroken to be honest but I need it as I am running a third party SIM and need it unlocked to work!

The Dev Teams Blog, for those who dont know, its mostly these guys taht are hooking everyone up with jailbreak after jailbreak.
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
This is the low down on our tools for use with the 3.1 firmware from Apple, please read the whole post in full before attempting anything. Because of changes with Apple’s update techniques (that complicate the 3GS upgrade process) this will be a multipart release. This release starts with PwnageTool 3.1 for Mac OS X - this application supports the iPhone 1st Generation (2G), the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 1G. NB: THIS DOES NOT SUPPORT THE 3GS OR 2G/3G IPOD TOUCH. redsn0w for Mac OS X and Windows will follow sometime in the near future, please don’t bug us about it - we’ll release when we have something ready.

I have an iPod Touch 1G. I successfully jailbroke it when using 2.2.1 before. However, I had to take it once to apple store and so I restored it to factory settings removing the jailbreak. After that I used a 3.0 ipsw from some site and then tried to jailbreak. It refused to enter into DFU mode and so then I bought iPod Touch firmware 3.0 and now my firmware version is 3.1.1 (7C145) official.
I downloaded pwnage tool 3.1 and it didn't have an option for ipod touch 1g ( the three options are iphone , ipod touch 2g and iphone 3g ) . I went with the ipod touch 2g option and created a custom firmware. But the problem is I am unable to enter the DFU mode how much ever I try. Please help because there a lot of apps I want to try..
Thanks in advance

I jailbroke my iPod touch 1G yesterday, and I can arrange apps in iTunes and even see my Winterboard theme via iTunes (as well as Cydia et al.). Are you guys talking about the iPod touch 2G, 3G or am I missing something?

I also was able to jailbreak my iPod Touch on 3.1.1 firmware. Themes work, and it is great!
