What Was Your College Mascot?

So, what where/are your mascots in college? And, what would be your ideal mascot? Right now, its a wildcat. The mascot costumes are[/URL] way cool, for a wildcat. (We have two of them) I wish it was something more unique, like a wolverine! There are too many wildcats/tigers/lions/cougars/jaguars/panthers/other cats. They are awesome, but there are too many of them! But ya, what was it? And, you can tell colors or name of school if you'd like.

That's Bully. Bully I achieved a bit of fame. He died after an accident with a bus on campus. There was a huge funeral procession across campus as ROTC cadets carried Bully in a glass coffin. He was buried at the 50 yard line on the football field. The event made Life magazine.

Things like this are why I love college sports. The mascots and traditions are awesome. I've always liked the Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech, both the song and the car. The Purdue Boilermaker is pretty cool, as well. I also like the Horned Frogs from TCU. I have always wondered what the Golden Hurricane from Tulsa is. It just sounds...odd.

One of my other favorite oddities comes from my home state. There is a small Division II school in the delta called Delta State University. The official mascot is the Statesmen. In the 1980s, some students decided they needed a tougher mascot. As a joke, the "Fighting Okra" was suggested. The student body took the idea and ran with it.

Undergrad: Maverick(Univ. of Nebraska at Omaha), Rebel (UNLV), and none (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne Australia).

Most universities outside the US don't do athletics. Those that do sports go from high school straight to the pros. At least they do in Australia and NZ.

His original head was badly damaged in the embalming process, but used to be displayed between his feet. This proved too much of a temptation for students at a nearby rival college of the university, who once used it to play football in the college quad. Below: students parading the stolen head.

There are so many colleges without a mascot, or they downplay it if they have one. Guys/gals, what about high school mascots?

That seems to be the more important one for the majority of the populace. Before the Griffin (which nobody can really adequately describe), my college had a cross beam section of a bridge, and before that an unnamed ship on the high seas as a mascot!?

But in high school, our mascot, a jolly Franciscan Monk, was an ever present entity that was at games, dances, rallies, and on high school attire and uniforms. Our mascot got to do routines with the cheerleaders and was a person most students knew personally.

Like the high school yearbook over the college yearbook, it's the high school memories and stories most of us remember as it usually corresponded with our first real trials and tribulations with the opposite sex, getting the freedom to drive, and for at least half, getting the right to vote and entering adulthood. Our mascot was with us through that entire awkward journey which was our 14th through 18th years in our adolescence.
