My local Apple store, Willowbrook Mall Houston TX, had a sign out front saying that they will be closed from the 12-14th due to renovations. Could they be redesigning the store to market a new product? Possibly ipod touch with camera, tablet, notebook update, new desktop. If your local apple store also has notifications about redesigning post something here. Or if you just want to shed some light on the subject.

Just a second thought that they may be doing this to market the new ipod nano

Or.... perhaps it's just a normal store renovation, as Apple isn't likely to release anything new until next year after just doing a keynote?

Yeah I think it's just a renovation, sorry.

Sorry to tell you, but Apple is just updating it's stores' looks. Houston isn't special - it's just a renovation.

Yeah, this isn't the online store where the close down every time a new product is released. Although, now that I think about it, that would amusing. You go to the Apple store, and there is a big yellow sticky note on the front door saying they will be back soon. :D

Normal renovation. In general the stores are getting smaller, at least the ones in Dallas that have renovated have.

I hate what they've done to my Apple store in the renovation. They've removed the "browseable" area that has software, peripherals, and accessories. Now you can't purchase anything without getting an employee to get it for you.

I used to like stopping in to look around, but I doubt I'll go back now. I'll just order online.
