Mine works perfect even on wifi. I did the 5.2 ipcc. I'm on a family plan which I think is the main issue with the red ! for people on individual plans.
what's worse, complaining about a feature you don't have and would use? or complaining about people who want a feature you don't care about?
there never seems to be a shortage of people taking the time to post about how pointless mms is to them. I personally will use it all the time.
btw I've tried pics, audio, and a video. (both ways to and from) all are working good

good to hear, glad my guide's working out for most people....
and couldnt agree more with you, complaining about a feature that you personally will never use is dumb. YOU ARE NOT EVERYONE! I personally use MMS all the time just because it is much more convenient when most of my friends dont have email capable phones.

followed the new guide with the 5.2 ipcc and all the settings looked the same from the guide after rebooting and I still get the same red exclamation. BOOO must be that im on an individual text plan and not family. seems thats the problem most people are having. guess ill just wait the 9 days til it works the right way :(

With the new 5.2 ipcc, you don't need the APN data...thats why the guide has been modified

yeah i tried changing some of those settings even with the 5.2 and still no go. from all these posts of people not working and some working i really think it has to do with the family plan vs individual plan. waiting the 9 days...

Mine has been working great since Friday night. Visual voicemail still works flawlessly and it doesn't matter if wifi is on or not.
Follow this guide perfectly.
PS: some people are still getting red exclamation marks, I did too up until Friday when AT&T was out for about 4 hours in my area. All of a sudden they would go through.
Your instructions worked perfectly, thanks! However, I would like to go back to my original setup. How can I rollback these changes?

This link will now take you to the new guide, which includes a link to download the updated IPCC
http://adam.midlane.net/iPhone/iPhoneMMS.pdf
This one also keeps group texts as SMS's instead of changing them to MMS.
*NOTE* This will give you AT&T 5.2 on your about screen, this is just for convenience purposes to allow us to be able to tell the difference in IPCC's.
For just the newest IPCC:

Worked for me! I have a 32GB 3G[S] that I got at the end of August that is on a family plan with unlimited messaging running a JB 3.0.1 and you carrier file was the only one that would even install for me. Everything else kept saying I was still at 4.0. Now it says 5.2, has MMS (even with WiFi on), Tethering, and Visual Voicemail.
Just out of curiosity, what carrier file is it/what has been done to it? You said it is "5.2" for convenience purposes, so what was it really?
Oh and thanks! now I can go send a bunch of MMS till I get bored of it.

I've got it working on mine here in San Antonio, TX. Of course, I moved my messaging plan a few months ago from an iPhone messaging plan to a regular one after I moved my Sim to a BlackBerry. It has stuck all this time, so I'm not sure if that was why I was successful or not.
I tried to do the same last night on my wife's phone, and was successful in moving the iPhone messaging plan to a standard one like I did with mine, but it still giving me the bloody red !.. Even with trying the 5.2 ipcc file and everything.. Even just tried sending mms to the Blackberry phone with her iPhone sim in it.. just laughs at me.. if you try to email to the phone a MMS it rejects back with an MMS restricted failure message from the postmaster.
I'll let things be for now.. it is only another week... I should have moved hers back when I did mine and we might have been good on hers too.. oh well!!

Ok, I updated my phone to the latest carrier file (5.1) 2 weeks ago. MMS has not worked.
Yesterday, its started working (Maryland)
I dont have a family plan.
I sent some MMS to others I know that have iphones....they did not receive the MMS but instead got some sort of message with a url link (requiring a id and password).
So, the downside of all of the MMS hacking is that unless your iphone recipient hacks their phone , and their MMS is also turned on...
They will not see your MMS.
...so that makes this effort prettly much a waste of time until 09/25.

I tried that guide. It messed up my VVM for about 2 hours, but it was smooth sailing after that.

Im on a single user phone. Unlimited Messaging. I noticed when i looked at my account online that it said i have integrated messaging with a description about mms... i noticed this about 2 months ago. I updated my phone with this guide http://adam.midlane.net/iPhone/iPhoneMMS.pdf and everything works perfectly. Incoming and outgoing. Thanks!

i added on a brand new 3G S two days ago onto my account with the 200 messaging plan and MMS is not enabled. Seems like if they were doing things manually (AT&T) at the system level, they would have done mine right from the get go... i guess not.

I loaded the latest 5.2 IPCC carrier file a day or two ago. MMS didn't work last night, but surprise, worked this morning. I did a test message with someone on another network with MMS -- worked (and got a MMS photo back + SMS message in reply). Also sent MMS message successfully to another iPhone elsewhere.
Now I'm starting to consider AT&T's pronouncement of Sept 25 everywhere credible. ;)

It's the same 5.0 carrier file that is part of the 3.1 upgrade. We've just modified it telling it to enable MMS messaging and gave it all the MMS settings it needs. I said 5.2 for convenience purposes because we just changed the version number on the file so that people can tell the different between the IPCC's they have on their phone. That way when people say its not working, its very easy for people like me to determine the problem more quickly.

How do i get OPT-OUT removed? I have followed the instructions back and forth, and used the most receive ATT file and still I get the red exclamation mark. I keep hearing about this opt-out code but at&t phone reps no nothing of the sort.
what's the deal?

I am following the instructions as listed in the .pdf and am unable to locate a file which will allow me to click "Ok" (Vista 64) as mentioned in the instructions. Any tips on where to work or how to configure it to locate the file I can select in lieu of just the folders which when clicked simply open and show no contents?
Thanks.

I tried that and followed the instructions as provided but once I am within iTunes and shift+click the "Update" tap it shows nothing to "Ok." Only "Open," which once done shows no .ipcc files. Oh well, I can wait til the 25th, just hadn't messed with my phone in the year I have had it and figured I would try it for the heck of it.

To me MMS never was something id really miss, e-mail solves that anyway but i guess it cud be handy in some moments, what i really want to know about is tethering, now thats functional.

I have finally have MMS!!!
http://i762.photobucket.com/albums/xx269/craigslistguy/download-3.jpg http://i762.photobucket.com/albums/xx269/craigslistguy/download-2.jpg
I used the most recent tutorial provided by Adam. Initially It did not work, All of my settings were correct. I began trying about 4-5 days ago, and today it's working!
Some notes:
(1) I am on an individual plan (w/ unlimited text and data)
(2) My account WAS OVERDUE at the time i began trying.
(3) My phone got turned off (acct suspended), i paid the bill, rebooted my iPhone and tried MMS for the hell of it, and it went through!
I have sent over 30 MMS messages with no problems. Maybe my account being overdue had something to do with it because after I followed the steps in the tutorial perfectly, i still had no MMS. I paid my bill at an AT&T retail store, asked the rep about an "opt-out" code possibly being on my account, and they knew nothing about it. Hope this helps!

Well I was late on my payment as well. So I paid this morning and thought I'd try to talk to a rep and get the Opt Out taken off my account. The guy was super nice and at first he said "Do you want me to add the opt-out?" and I told him no that I wanted to enable my MMS. He said he didn't know it was out yet, but he saw it on his screen. So he did whatever, told me something was being sent to my phone and to turn it off and back on and it should work. Of course, I was on a my iPhone so I couldn't try it with him on the line.
Tried it...fail
Suggestions? Other than "wait" preferably.....

Man...I have the same plan as you and live in Miami and I rebooted and got nothing yet. Stupid how we have the upgraded 7.2 Mbps network already (in Miami) but don't have MMS. AT&T fails on rolling out stuff fluidly.
