I don't find it very funny. That is called "competition". The reason Apple allows those things on their Macs and specific things on Windows is to allow more people to use their product. It does not matter on where, it is theirs though. If Apple would make their iPods Mac only, more than half of the market share for iPods would be lost. That's why Apple does it.
For Bootcamp, Apple allows people to run Windows on the MAC. Meaning they are using a Mac, which is what Apple wants. It does not matter if it is a Windows PC or a Mac, it is Apple's.

It's in the interest of both companies for iPods to run on Windows and Office to run on OSX.

That is called competition. They want people to not use Windows, but go to Mac and use Windows there. It is smart business.

Pointing out their inadequacies is bashing? The ads depict a stereotypical PC user, who can't easily navigate their computer and the internet for fear of virus, malware, spyware, crapware, etc. that are targeted for PC's.

They aren't jerks about it having actors say "well I'm not cool enough" or "I'm too poor to be a PC," as Microsoft has done.

The thing a lot of people overlook about Apple is that they usually have up-to-date hardware in their machines. Sure, you can go out and buy a PC for $400, but you will probably get a processor and GPU that are 2+ years old. For most people that will be fine, and all they notice is the difference in price.

If they are on such a budget, there are plenty of ways they can use OS X without buying a Mac. And since the price for SL dropped below $50, that's one less thing to complain about. How much is MS charging for 7? ;) (Non-students)

Apple probably provides programs for 1 of 2 main reasons.
1. Provide a program/driver for another non-Macintosh product (i.e. iTunes for iPhone, iPod, etc).
2. Promote something as a standard (i.e. Firewire, Quicktime, Bonjour, Safari, etc).

Microsoft probably provides programs for 1 or 2 main reason.
1. Make more money
2. Avoid some kind of legal trouble (i.e. prior lawsuits, legitimize another operating system, etc).

Microsoft hasn't really been bashing Apple, except to say that they cost more in the "Laptop Hunter" ads. In the "I'm a PC" ads, they tried to save self esteem for PC users. In the Seinfeld ads, they were completely nuts.

The only thing Apple's competition has been saying about Apple is that they cost more, and they have been looking for dirt real hard. All those SEC claims, App Store rejection complaints, Google board flap, Jobs health issues, etc, are just cheap shots to slow down a company that is doing things right.

The best they can say, which is true, is that Apple's quality isn't perfect, or that Macintosh isn't invulnerable to malware. They don't pick on those "soft underbellies" because they have a worse track record.

I agree that apple is not perfect (if it was, then why the need for the software and hardware updates? ;)) nor is Microsoft. Both have their ups and downs

I have to agree that the bashing on both sides is stupid. In my country its illegal to bash another company's product to sell your own. They should point out the strengths of their own products rather than stooping to anti-PC nonsense.

The real irony I love is that they say "PCs are bad, they get viruses", and then when its time to sell a Mac they happily say "Use a Mac it will run Windows". Suddenly Windows is useful when its run on a Mac. They also don't bother to mention that Macs basically are PCs these days.

Well, If you look at some of those bargain PCs, you will find they don't have cutting edge tech. I'm not generalizing that ALL PC's are old and unable, just some of the bargain PC's found at Wal-Mart, BB, etc.
You can get up to date parts from Dell, HP, Lenovo and Sony but they won't be $400.

Example: Earlier this year I purchased a few month old Sony from someone here, and it came with the same 2.16 processor in the 2006/2007 Macbook, so I think that's a fair assessment ;)
