Hi there,
I'm using CS on a macbook OSX 10.5.8
I need to make a wave pattern to be cut into vinyl to go on a window.
I just can't figure out how to do it! seems to be such a straight forward thing to do.

imagine a rectangle block with an even zig zag pattern in it horizontally- but with smooth curves- like waves. does that make sense?

Often I try to alter the shape and it still looks like a rectangle in the outline view. If I make a zig zag line it looks straight in outline view- which means a vinyl cutter would just cut a straight line.
I've tried doing it using envelope mesh but then you have loads of extra lines that would be cut into the vinyl too.
Can anyone help?

Make your object with straight lines, then...

Effect menu
- Distort & Transform
- Zig Zag
- choose "Smooth" and "Preview". Set Options as you desire.
- check OK
Object menu
- Expand Appearance

This should translate the wavy effect to an actual wavy line.

Yes, EXPAND is Key to making the effect translate into the vector lines.
