iPod Can I Partition my 30GB 5th Gen?

I'd like to use maybe 1gig of it on a separate partition on which I'd like to burn my BUI Bootable Utilities Image 2.2 image. Can I do this while maintaining a functional iPod? Will I be able to select the separate partition as a bootable drive on my mac?
